"Cheney's Law" could penalize hunters who leave scene of injury incidents

ALBANY, N.Y. An upstate senator says he hopes New York lawmakers this year will pass a bill to make it a felony if a hunter leaves the scene of a serious injury incident.

Senator George Winner -- an Elmira Republican -- has been sponsoring the measure for years. But the proposal now is getting more attention in the aftermath of the accidental shooting incident involving Vice President Cheney in Texas.

Winner told Binghamton radio station W-N-B-F that he believes the bill -- now dubbed by supporters as "Cheney's Law" -- may finally be passed by both the Senate and Assembly this year.

Winner said without the publicity associated with what he called the "vice president's travails," it would have been more difficult to for the proposed hunting regulation to receive much notice in Albany.

5. I'm surprised there isn't a law to that effect already!
Seems logical! It's a crime to leave the scene of an auto accident if someone is injured...

11. I'm even more surprised there's a need for such a law!
But apparently, doing the right thing, the human thing, is just beyond some people's capabilities, that they'd (for example) shotgun their friend right in the face, and not think to alert the authorities.

Mind-boggling.

10. What an appropriate legacy for Cheney!
I know he didn't leave the scene, but he didn't act reponsibly.
