Matalin defends Cheney

An adviser to Dick Cheney said it was appropriate for ranch owner Katharine Armstrong to disclose word that the vice president had shot a hunting companion.

Mary Matalin said Armstrong "saw the whole thing," whereas Cheney was only aware of what he did.

...

Interviewed on NBC's Today show Thursday morning, Matalin said she hopes Cheney's explanation in an interview with the Fox News Channel Wednesday will put the matter to rest. Cheney takes full blame for the shooting but is defiantly unapologetic about not publicly disclosing the accident sooner.

28. Actually she no longer is part of the Administration. She left years
ago but apparently is called in to help out and "advise" Dickie from time to time. She's a hack for hire just like her hubby. I wonder if she's doing this just for old time's sake or if she is on a contract and we're paying her to lie to us.

Heckuva job, Mary. Keep talking about the "eyewitness who saw everything" and people may be obliged to point out yet again that your "eyewitness" has told the media she was in the car, saw nothing of the incident and hadn't a clue that anyone had been shot. When she saw the Secret Service folks running she thought old CC maybe had a heart attack.

5. Armstrong should hold a press conference
If Cheney doesn't know what happened and he thought he'd defer to Armstrong to alert the press, why not have her finish the job and answer qyuestions?
I'll bet Rove wouldn't like that idea. Nor Cheney.

6. Cheney said Armstrong selected to make statement but that was
false---apparently, she made statement on her own while Dickhead kept the mess secret. Now he's trying to make it look like the Armstrong statement was orchestrated as the "proper way" to give info to the public.

30. Armstrong claimed she made the statement on her own. Why should that claim
be any more credible than her "eyewitness" report? Than her statement that Cheney had nothing to drink? Rove had called her the night before when he learned of the shooting, according to NY Times. They are old buddies from way back. Scotty slipped when he said she worked with the VP's office on the statement, since she had claimed she hadn't & it was all her family's idea, and then looked real happy when that wasn't pursued further at the presser.

Think no one worked on the cover story she was to give to her local pet newspaper? It was intended to frame the story, dismissing the shooting and injuries as no big deal. So the story, they thought, wouldn't have legs. It might have worked, with the claims that the guy was yucking it up in the ICU, having a good old time like he was just in a living room and not an intensive care unit. Until that small heart problem and it was clear that the injuries were far more serious and Whittington wouldn't be available for any photo ops any time soon to show off his "peppering."

7. What about the Secret Service report on the shooting?
Surely they would make better witnesses than this lobbyist who Matalin's so proud of, and surely they've made a report...after all, Armstrong's stated initial thought was that it was Cheney's heart.
As a TPM reader points out, if she thought it was Cheney's heart causing the hubbub how much could she have actually seen?

8. Why are we letting them define our position once again? This is not
about when/how the media knew, it's about why Cheney didn't talk to cops until 8am the next day. It's about why the SS had to keep authorities at bay.

11. The REAL witnesses at MUCH closer range were Secret Service...
THEY should've been the ones to make the TRUE, credible statement to the press.

Oh...except right, right...their job IS to protect the VP. Conflict-of-interest.

If she has, I haven't seen it here or elsewhere. Link, anyone? I was under the impression that she was closer in proximity to Cheney than Armstrong was.

27. But Armstrong's already proven herself a liar
She swore upside down and backwards that no alcoholic beverages were ever even served, that they were all drinking Dr. Pepper, yet Cheney himself admits to having been drinking beer. What, did he smuggle it into the Dr. Pepper party?

32. The actual witness has never made a statement.
The "other hunter", as Cheney kept refering to her, got out of there in a hurry.

As usual, the Bushbots accept the lies and now it will be just another little footnote in the History of Amerika.

Admit it: They come in handy to express outrage.

Which, I think, makes your criticism nonsense.
