OH: State Looks Hot as Ever as Filing Deadline Passes
Feb. 16, 2006

http://www.cqpolitics.com/2006/02/oh_state_looks_hot_as_ever_as.html

Thursday was the deadline for candidates to qualify for Ohio’s primary, and the day yielded ample evidence the state might be as closely watched in this year’s midterm elections as it was in 2004, when it decided the election in favor of President Bush.

Republicans control most major offices in Ohio, but Bush’s poor approval ratings, a strong Democratic candidate recruitment effort and scandals swirling around some state Republicans have the Democrats confident they will score a major comeback.

The Democrats are waging a vigorous effort to win the governor’s mansion, which the Republicans have held since 1991. GOP Gov. Bob Taft is not seeking re-election. Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell and state Attorney General Jim Petro will battle for the Republican nomination.

2. That's just what we all said in 2004.
Bush’s poor approval ratings, a strong Democratic candidate recruitment effort and scandals swirling around some state Republicans have the Democrats confident they will score a major comeback.

This is OHIO, where election returns are made up out of whole cloth.

The election results are whatever Blackwell types into his computer and bear no connection to the actual vote!

See how they flipped all the reform initiatives from 2-1 FOR to 2-1 AGAINST!

We have been stopped at every possible avenue for restoring free elections in Ohio this year.

Karl would love to see us pour money and people into Ohio.

We should try to protect as many of our "safe" seats as we can there, but nothing more,
and focus our efforts where our votes are still counted.

3. As long as the Republicans control the voting machines I don't
see Dems having much chance.
