George Clooney not sorry he made fun of Abramoff
Feb. 17, 2006

http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/entertainment/music/13892777.htm

LOS ANGELES - George Clooney, who may be giving speeches again at next month's Academy Awards, says he has no regrets about making an off-color joke about disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff during last month's Golden Globes.

"I make no apologies for that - it was a joke," Clooney told CNN's Larry King on Thursday.

1. He went on to say that, if anyone had disgraced the Abramoff name...
...it was Jack (or words to that effect). He also said that he admired Jack's father for defending him even though Jack is an admitted felon--something about strong family bonds.

3. Yes, he must apologize. Americans love apologies
Apologize and everyone feels better. At least apologize for not apologizing.

5. This is what he said
"Who would name their kid Jack with the last words 'off' at the end of your last name? No wonder that guy is screwed up," Clooney quipped as he accepted the best supporting actor award.

Honestly, I cracked up when I read that. But I understand the father's pain. I wouldn't want to throw salt on the father's wounds (the guy has effectively lost a son).

8. Clooney was absolutely right, Jack's father should blame Jack
Jack's father should be blaming JACK, not George. George is just stating the truth about someone who has lied, cheated and deceived (at very least) everyone. He shouldn't shoot the messenger.

28. Is the name actually "Jack", or "John"? Because if "John", then the son
is tone-deaf for taking on "Jack"! I mean, he's never heard this obvious one before?!

27. She used to be pretty.. now she's gross and gaunt.
Someone needs to tell women over 30 that uber-skinny looks awful. I was shocked when I saw a recent photo of her. I thought heroin chic was out...

18. The joke George Clooney made...
was funny, I think. Because my last name is "Hoff". but my parents had more sense to name my brother Brent and not Jack...though people call him Jack anyways.
I think its right for George Clooney not to apologize. Why apologize for something you're not sorry for?

24. He has nothing to apologize for. It was a JOKE. Good one, too.
And his comeback was excellent - the only person who's sullied the Abramoff family name is sonny-boy Jack. But, I, too, can understand a father's complaint. His dad was just doing what loyal dads do. Too bad he has such a snake for a kid.

Mr. Clooney is indeed one George I can LOVE! And I've been married 30 years. I think he's JUST DREAMY. Oh yeah, and his looks are okay, too.

It was great. The writeup might sound dry and worthless, but it was some good tv.

They get bullied into apologizing for telling the truth.

25. Yeah George
There is/was no need to apologize. Like he said at the time (he was the first one to accept an award), It's early and I haven't had a drink yet.

Wonder what he would have come up with, with a few drinks under his belt:rofl:

:applause: :woohoo: :loveya: :applause:
