Poll: No Need For More Investigation Of Cheney Shooting

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Two-thirds of voters nationwide say there is no need for a further investigation into Vice President Dick Cheney's shooting of a hunting partner during a visit to a Texas ranch last weekend, a poll reported Friday.

The poll, from Marist College's Institute for Public Opinion and sponsored by WNBC-TV in New York City, also found that 66 percent of voters said they were bothered by the Bush administration's handling of Hurricane Katrina. That was of more concern to voters than the administration's use of warrantless domestic surveillance (50 percent), the indictment of Cheney aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby (50 percent) and the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal (40 percent).

When it came to Cheney's Saturday shooting of Harry Whittington, 34 percent of voters said they wanted a further investigation while 65 percent said that wasn't needed. Democrats were about evenly split while more than nine in 10 Republican voters said they were opposed to further investigation.

1. LOL! And the insurgency is in its last throes....
Geeze, how desperate does the GOP have to be to poll on that question?

2. In The Scheme Of Things....
It is less important than those other issues, that much is certain.

The better point is that there are SO MANY THINGS that they have Totally & Completely Fucked Up, that it's hard to decide which is the most important to deal with first. Where do you begin?

people wake up to the fact that they've been mislead and lied to... but after the denial and grieving comes the ANGER.

It's hilarious to hear somebody try to pretend that Democrats "can't meet" the standards of not shooting a 78 year old guy in the face of chest while drnk as a skunk at a weekend tryst with a blonde popsy at a lobbyist's ranch, not obstructing justice, and not lying to the press afterwards. What planet do you live on?

"Remember former congressman Gary Condit?"
You mean the guy who got smeared by the GOP for months even though it turned out he had nothing whatsoever to do with the disappearance of a young woman in Washington? I sure as shit do.

"Wilbur Mills?"
Wilbur was a Republican. But don't let facts get in your way.

13. i don't think ANY DUer has a problem
with a full investigation into ANY dem who shoots his buddy in the face with a shotgun.

the VP shot a man in the face with a shotgun. there is a whole world of difference between that and a bar fight or, ahem, a blowjob.

oh, and please note, the dems were using this angle well before the gunshot, just wait till there are dems in the whitehouse again, freely changing whatever laws they want, unitary executive y'know, spying on republicans, hehe.

20. Wah?
You compare a congressman's wife in a common bar fight with the vice president of the country shooting someone in the face and heart? Crawl back into your right-wing hole, idiot.

8. I don't think that 65% would agree that Cheney's off the hook.
I think it might be a waste of time, because the "fix" is in. I might put myself in with the 65%, but knowing that he was drunk and used his power to get out of responsibility.

21. oh yeah...
And no need to ask about WMDs, no need to investigate the Downing Street Memo, no need to question the wiretapping program, and no need to ask about that thing that Bush wore under his jacket during the debates with Kerry...
