Shot friend 'sorry' for Cheney

HARRY Whittington, the hunting companion accidentally shot by Vice President Dick Cheney, has expressed regret at the storm of publicity caused by the shooting.

The 78-year-old lawyer, who was to leave hospital overnight, said he was "deeply sorry for all Vice President Cheney and his family have had to go through this week."

"Accidents do and will happen and that's what happened," he said. "We hope that he will continue to come to Texas and seek the relaxation that he deserves."

Cheney accidentally shot Whittington during a hunting trip last Saturday. The vice president has been drawn into a controversy because the accident was only announced one day later.

"We all assume certain risks in whatever we do, whatever activity we pursue, and regardless of how experienced, careful and dedicated we are, accidents do and will happen, and that's what happened last Friday," Whittington said.

He also apologized for the media attention Cheney has received because of the incident.

"My family and I are deeply sorry for all that Vice-President Cheney and his family have had to go through this week. We send our respect to them as they deal with situations that are much more serious than what we've had to deal with this week."

5. Yeah, Cheney Deserves Something Alright...
But it's not Rest or Relaxation! Anyway, like Cheney's going to want to come back to Texas and go quail hunting again anytime soon.... heh,heh... I bet Whittington could make some $$$ off this (if he hasn't already been promised $$$ to keep quiet on the real details or to at least not make any waves).

55. That is exactly what my local news titled the story.
And they weren't being ironic. There was a screen shot of Whittington starting to make his statements and the caption at the bottom said VICTIM APOLOGIZES TO CHENEY. Unbelievable.

makes the victim look more sympathetic. and it's just bizarre that a guy who just got shot would say he felt sorry for the man who shot him, which gives the story another angle and keeps it alive.

esp. since i suspect that both men were drinking and this contributed to the accident, sure, if it happened to you and your friend, you'd feel pretty bad & you'd want to cover for ea. other

but since i'm not friends of mr. cheney or mr. whittington then i'm afraid i'm going to continue to enjoy the media circus

they would already have cheney in handcuffs if he'd been al gore

so i will feel free to continue to make merry at their expense

Accidents happen. Sorry because of cheney's arrogance in not telling?
I imagine he does feel sorry for Cheney's shooting him and accidents do happen. However, what he should NOT feel sorry about or excuse is Cheney's arrogance in trying to hush it up.

21. I empathize
with him on feeling sorry for Cheney. Last summer, while we were doing some work around the house, I stupidly cut my hand on a table saw, requiring a trip to the ER. My husband blamed himself for it because he had taken off the safety shield. He took my injury a lot worse than I did. I was the one who had to calm HIM down, so I can understand the injured party feeling sorry for the party who caused the injury. I'm sure it was an accident. I'm also sure they were drinking and therefore weren't as careful as they should have been. And all this is not an excuse for the way Cheney handled the situation AFTER the shooting.

35. Blood thinners..
cause people, especially the elderly, to have massive bruising when they get large doses. No doubt he got blasted with LOTS and LOTS of blood thinners in the hospital...he went into a irregular heartneat call 'afib" which can cause blood clots to be thrown. The bruising on his face and neck is just a small part of his bruising that can be seen, most likely he is covered from head to toe in blood thinner related bruises. Given the fallout of the man dying I imagine they blasted him with everything they could..I know one article said that he was also getting steroids to stop the heart muscle irritation..side effects from those can suck, also.
He may be discharged from the hospital but the guy is not "well" by any means. Probably on blood thinners, steroids, and preventative cardiac related meds for the rest of his life given that he still has pellets wandering around his body...

Chimp and his puppeteer boss will want this guy whisked away and all we will hear is "he's doing really well, back to work, blah, blah, blah".

42. Right sided blood thinners?
Would only the right side be bruised by the use of systemic blood thinners? Are these some special right wing blood thinners? And there are the obvious pellet wounds on the right side of his face as well.

If Whittington was coming up behind Cheney, facing towards Cheney, the left side of his face would have been exposed as Cheney turned to his right.

If Whittington was behind Cheney, facing away from Cheney, that would mean Whittington was walking away from Cheney, not towards him.

also, remember when Clinton got the blow job and republicans started with the "it''s about the lying" . we can do the same in this case.

of course in this case the actual shooting is an issue also and not comparable to the bj.

Rogers: I've been told Dick Cheney nailed your head to the floor.
Stig: No. Never. He was a smashing bloke. He used to buy his mother
flowers and that. He was like a brother to me.
Rogers: But the police have film of Cheney actually nailing your head to
the floor.
Stig: (pause) Oh yeah, he did that.
Rogers: Why?
Stig: Well he had to, didn't he? I mean there was nothing else he could do,
be fair. I had transgressed the unwritten law.
Rogers: What had you done?
Stig: Er... well he didn't tell me that, but he gave me his word that it was
the case, and that's good enough for me with old Cheney. I mean, he
didn't *want* to nail my head to the floor. I had to insist. He
wanted to let me off. He'd do anything for you, Dick Cheney would.
Rogers: And you don't bear him a grudge?
Stig: A grudge! Old Cheney. He was a real darling.
Rogers: I understand he also nailed your wife's head to a coffee table.
Isn't that true Mrs O' Tracy?
Mrs O' Tracy: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Stig: Well he did do that, yeah. He was a hard man. Vicious but fair.
