Iran hails IAEA chief's suggestion on enrichment

TEHRAN, Feb. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Saturday hailed as "a step forward" a recent suggestion to allow Iran to perform small-scale uranium enrichment by the U.N. nuclear watchdog chief to break the deadlock over the issue.

"We welcome our friend's positive view toward the issue of enrichment inside Iran and regard it as a step forward," Mottaki said.

Some western media recently quoted diplomatic sources as saying that Mohamed ElBaradei, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), had recently expressed worry that it would be hard to reach a compromise on the Iranian nuclear issue unless the Islamic Republic is allowed to conduct small-scale enrichment work.

According to ElBaradei, a deal could be made by permitting Iran to operate a pilot enrichment plant for small-scale work in exchange for Tehran's withdrawal from industrial-scale enrichment.

Not for what it does necessarily. But I've never understood why iy's OK for us to have WMDs by the thousands, but can use the threat of WMDs possessed by others as an excuse to invade. We have more nukes, more biological and chemical stuff than anyone.

3. There is an int'l chemical weapons group that was trying to get Sadam

to agree to an agreement not to use chemical weapons. The president of that group was making good progress. Too much infact and * had him fired. That was also the end of any diplomacy with Iraq. It was about a year before the invasion. * is not going to allow any diplomacy work with Iran.

For the past year, the growing tensions mounting between the US, Israel, and Iran are reaching a point where military action against Iran is w/in months of becoming reality. The repercussions are terrifying as such military action could involve countries such as China and Russia as they share massive energy/economic interests w/ Iran. The most likely scenario we would face would be the collapse of the US economy as the combination of a massive rise in oil prices and a run on the US dollar would surely be the weapon many countries would use to fight back against a preemptive US or Israeli strike.
