Injured US soldier, widow win $102.6 million judgment for Afghanistan attack

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A U.S. soldier wounded in Afghanistan and the widow of his slain comrade were awarded a $102.6 million US judgment from the estate of an Egyptian-born Canadian.
But Sgt. Layne Morris, of West Jordan, Utah, and the family of medic Christopher Speer, could have a difficult time collecting their award because the assets of Ahmed Said Khadr, a suspected al-Qaida financier, are unknown. Other soldiers have difficulty identifying their attackers, making it difficult to hold individuals responsible.

Morris cited news reports - including interviews with the immediate family of his attacker, Omar Khadr, indicating that the 15-year-old, had wounded him and killed Speer.

The ruling, released Friday, cited similar evidence that the boy's father, suspected financier Ahmad Said Khadr, was linked to al-Qaida and trained his son to attack American targets

1. these are the same mujihadeen that the U.S. ENCOURAGED...
...and bankrolled during the Soviet occupation-- now we have ex-soldiers suing them for fighting against the latest occupiers. Pretty insane, IMO.

3. Nah...
They are "arabs" and therefore probably deserved to die. Americans, on the other hand, should be invinceable and if one dies someone is going to be sued.

5. Ummm, Usaguy....
There not Arab. They are more closely related to Indians and persians, being Turkic,Nuristani and surprisingly enough, Mongolian in ancestry. But we all know that the fact that they have permanent tans qualifies them for death and my goodness, in many eyes, being Islamic deserves the death penalty. :sarcasm:
By the way...WELCOME TO DU!!!!:hi:

By the way, isn't it a shame the way we devalue the lives of those that look, speak, live, worship or think differently than we do?

13. I think so, at least right now..
I just pray for more clouds. I'd just like more gray weather. We have so much sun here in Sacramento and I look forward to the fog and clouds. Its been like early spring here for the better part of the last month and a half.

17. a complete and utter travishamockery of justice
'terrorist' my foot. this wasn't terrorism, it happened in battle. and holding the father responsible for the actions of his son? what nonsense is that? good lord, this crap is really getting out of hand. labelling anyone who dares fight against american invasions a 'terrorist' is just insane.

18. Dangerous precedent (and another example of the danger of the Patriot Act)
A one hundred million dollar judgement against a "suspected al-Qaida financier".

"Suspected" is the operative word. It's now legal to do all sorts of things to people "suspected" of certain things. How many things do you thing any of us could be "suspected" of??

19. "SUSPECTED" is the key term here, especially because there are so
many questions surrounding Al Quaeda and its legitimacy as to what and who it really is. There are rumors if it is CIA financed.

So this seems to say that this verdict is not even proven fact.

This looks like a train robbery disguised as a lawsuit.
