Former Reid spokeswoman announces for GOP Rep. Jon Porter's seat
HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - Tessa Hafen, the former press secretary to Democratic Sen. Harry Reid, kicked off her campaign to unseat Republican Rep. Jon Porter on Monday, touting her family's history of public service in southern Nevada, where she grew up.

"This is my family and this is our home," Hafen, 29, told about 200 cheering supporters in front of the elementary school she attended in Henderson.

"I want to represent this community in Congress, because this is where I'm from and this is what I'll fight for," she said.

Hafen worked for eight years on Capitol Hill on Reid's staff, first as an intern and then later as press secretary and senior adviser. Her father, Andy Hafen, has been a Henderson city councilman for 20 years.

"Tessa's a person who didn't always tell me what I wanted to hear. She often told me what I needed to hear," said Reid, flanked by Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev.

1. I wish her well
as I do every candidate running to unseat pukes. I'm unfamiliar with the area so I don't know who else is running.

7. His staff writes polite letters, though
I sent identical letters regardng some air quality issue to him and Ensign a couple of years back. Porter's staff wrote back with a politely worded, almost-persuasive reply; Ensign's office essentially told me to go to hell.

I'm still not voting for the guy, but at least his staff has some degree of courtesy.

:-)

Oh, btw, what a crappy, condescending, attitude toward her by the local 'experts'. I think Porter is in for a lot more than he imagines.

5. She's got her hands on good internals
As does the GOP. The recent spin, which has changed from "There's no way the Dems can retake Congress" to "The Dems shouldn't investigate us WHEN they retake Congress" should say it all about how they see their own position crumbling.

Bush the environmentalist should say anything left out...

8. She's pro-life,
And defines marriage as "between a man and a woman." Harry has just given us another Republican Lite candidate.
