Gov. Bush Has Faith In Brother's Administration And Ports Deal

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Gov. Jeb Bush said he has faith in his brother's administration over its decision to allow an Arab-owned company to operate major U.S. ports, including in Miami.

Dubai Ports World, a state-owned business in the United Arab Emirates, is expected to take over a British company that has been running 6 U.S. ports.

Several South Florida congress members and politicians said the deal should be closely examined.

U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said she has no specific concerns about the company but just the fact that UAE was where a number of the 9/11 hijackers were harbored in warrants further examination.

2. How about the actions that led to the faith in the first place.
What's UAE's history?

And why sell our feet to a foreign entity, which may or may not be related to folks keen on chopping our feet (and other vital organs) off?

The administration should make that much clear up front. Is it Bad Intelligence, Deliberate Lying, or Faith-Based Initiative? This classification is important in the budgeting and appropriations process.

Opposition to selling forest land grows

WASHINGTON - The Truckee Meadows Trails Association says a * administration plan to sell off parcels of federal forest to developers could make it more difficult to maintain public access to the Carson Range.

The Forest Service announced last week a proposal to sell up to 300,000 acres of federal forests nationwide to raise $800 million, including about 2,100 acres in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The land would most likely be sold to developers and further restrict hikers' and hunters' access to the Carson Range, said Tony Di Silvestro, president of the trails group.

"That's a bad proposal. It's taxpayers' land," he said. "Percentage-wise, this isn't going to help balance the budget much."

The Forest Service plans to sell small parcels in federal forests to raise $800 million over five years for two reasons, said Dave Tenny, an Agriculture Department deputy undersecretary.

9. Oh, well, I feel better after that endorsement.
Would certainly make it easier for Jebbie's wife to smuggle things into this country by bypassing customs. God knows that it's a sin for Republicans to pay taxes on anything.

Gov. Bush has faith in brother's administration and ports deal

February 21, 2006

CORAL GABLES, Florida (AP)—Governor Jeb Bush says he has faith in his brother's administration over its decision to allow an Arab-owned company to operate major U.S. ports, including in Miami.

Dubai Ports World, a state-owned business in the United Arab Emirates, is expected to take over a British company that has been running six U.S. ports.

U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen says she has no specific concerns about the company but just the fact that UAE was where a number of the September Eleven hijackers were harbored in warrants further examination.

Florida's governor says he thinks criticism by some Congress members is unwarranted because his brother, President Bush, could press for more details by the time the sale is supposed to go through on March second.

I always thought the Jebster was an independent voice of reason who would analyze things in the best interests of his state, not because Smirk is his brother.....

18. Does Jeb look like the cat that swallowed the canary?
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has said that the company went through a "very extensive" review process.

Nevertheless, the Republican governors of New York and Maryland said they might try to cancel lease arrangements at ports in their states.

Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. Robert Menendez are planning to introduce legislation that would prevent the sale of port operations to foreign governments.

Pardon me, Alberto, but you did not conduct any background checks on this company nor did you gather any, that's right ANY, outside information before you made this decision.

26. Well, duh. What's he supposed to say? He doesn't trust his brother?
He probably doesn't BUT his mother will whomp him upside the head if there is ANY hint of disloyalty in the family.
And... Barbara is scary.
So, buck up Jeb. You just LOVE your brother... love him... love him....he's wonderful.
Uh huh.
