Scandal-hit Vatican banker dies (BBC)
Archbishop Paul Marcinkus died Monday. He was the head of the Vatican Bank at the time of the fraudulent collapse of Banco Ambrosiano. At that time Archbishop Marcinkus was wanted for questioning but granted immunity as a Vatican official.

3. I note the Calvi murder trial is in progress and Marcinkus's
cause of death has not been determined.

4. Interesting...
I read the book a few months back. In God's Name. He would have been somewhere in his late 70's or 80's.

12. ...and don't forget Cardinal Castillo Lara, of Venezuela, who spent
most of his career in the Vatican, ran one of the two Vatican financial arms during the banking scandals, and was forced to resign. He's the one who has been badmouthing Hugo Chavez, the democratically elected and very popular president of Venezuela, who thinks that some of the country's oil revenues ought to be used to help Venezuela's vast poor population--which has never before been served by government, and has hardly been thought of, by the rich oil elite--with schools and medical clinics and small business grants. Castillo Lara is an Opus Dei prelate, which likes having a vast population of poor, barefoot, illiterate and uninformed peasants to dictate to, and preach "morals" to. He no doubt shares the Italian fascists' dreams of Holy Roman Empire II.*

*(I was wondering what was in it, for the Italian fascists, at the '01 Rome meeting of Ladeen, Ghorbanifar & Co., and I think this may be it: they think the Bush junta is going to run out of money and cannon fodder and THEY are going to end up owning the Mideast oil fields that he is conquering! Just remember where all of the medieval Crusades to "liberate" Jerusalem were generated from, and where that boot is pointing.)

7. Some think he had a hand in causing the death of the beloved
Pope John Paul I in September of 1978. John Paul was just about to launch a major investigatioon into the shennanigans going on in the Vatican Bank and also in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Cardinal Cody who was Archbishop of the Cicago Archdiocese happened to be Marcinkus' very close friend!

14. I have always wondered about that....
I think there are many questions and few answers. I wonder if some of these folks aren't 'hastened' on their way to meet Jesus.
