Iraqi cleric Sadr vows revenge over shrine blast

BAGHDAD, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Shi'ite Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr blamed the bombing of a Shi'ite shrine in the Iraqi town of Samarra on Wednesday on Sunni Arab militants and vowed to take revenge, a spokesman for Sadr said.

"We will not only condemn and protest but we will act against those militants. If the Iraqi government does not do its job to defend the Iraqi people we are ready to do so," said Abdel Hadi al-Darajee of Sadr's position.

1. Not the Sunnis.
Not "radical" or otherwise.

Common sense makes that plain as day. Your daddy wouldn't be pleased with you, Moqtada.

8. I agree
the Sunnis do not benefit from the destruction of a mosque. I know who does though.

9. Zarqawi has been mass murdering Shia in holy sites
for over 2 years now and is about to get what he always wanted.

You do know that he is about to get what he always wanted. And, don't give me this Goldstine shit it is disrespectful of all the people who have died at that hands of the moster.

13. over the top??
I didn't realize there was a "top."

Why are you so concerned with people who don't completely buy the official story?

16. you implied that

that saying that there might be other motivations or agents involved in this mosque bombing is an "over the top" accusation.

edit: I'm not trying to pick a fight, I just don't like it when people place reactionary limits on discourse for no apparent reason.

:toast:

22. Sure
What I object to is people don't write before at least applying Occam's Razor

It may well be that the CIA/Black Ops Delta Commandos/Triple Canopy Mercs were responsible, but it could also be 11th Dimension Gremlins from the Planet Zenon. I just prefer if some DUers didn't fly off the handle.

I mean ask yourself:

Who planted the explosives? American Forces can not enter Mosques without approval from the US Commander (Gen Casey if I recall correctly) and it always causes a big uproar. So it had to be undercover agents or Muslims working for the Whisper Helicopter Guys. Or perhaps a religious fanatic, who thinks Shia worshipers are Apostates and corrupting True Islam (in his opinion), decided to plant the explosives...

Now, which of those choices do you think is MOST likely...

So, just to clarify it wasn't for no apparent reason, I have applied some critical thinking to the situation. In my opinion throwing out We were involved is an unreasonable accusation. I, however, have been wrong in the past and if some evidence comes forth I will alter my current conclusions.

3. Wish he would follow the lead of the Sufis in Qom
The Iranian government arrested, by their account, 1000 Sufis and bulldozed down their house of worship and the home of their spiritual teacher in this town, and forced those arrested to sign a paper saying they would not practice their form of Islam in Qom. The Sufis had gathered there, bringing flowers and cake to the people of the town, and when the militia came, shouting that Sufis were not Muslims but tools of Britain, the Sufis reminded them they had fought in the Iraq-Iran war and were patriotic Iranians. They were rounded up, and some were beaten and tortured.

What did they do about it? Got hold of Amnesty International, fellow Sufis in all different Sufi orders, with a request that we write our governments about this matter.

"SAMARRA, Iraq - A large explosion destroyed the golden dome of one of Iraq's most famous Shiite shrines Wednesday, spawning mass protests and triggering reprisal attacks against Sunni mosques. It was the third major attack against Shiite targets this week and threatened to enflame sectarian tensions.

Shiite leaders called for calm, but at least five Sunni mosques in the capital and two in Basra were attacked. About 500 Iraqi soldiers were sent to Sunni neighborhoods in Baghdad to prevent clashes between Shiites and Sunnis, army Capt. Jassim al-Wahash said

As an armchair archaeologist and fan of ancient history, this makes me sick. :(

12. The word is getting out
and, more important, the Sufis did not retaliate, but are using only non-violent means. They understand the importance of walking their talk. Non-violence always takes longer to see results, it seems.

17. psy ops, psy ops, psy ops, psy ops
This is psy ops all the way. Does anyone think the Iraqi's have started blowing up their own mosque's? Absolute BS. This is another prong of a multi-pronged agent provocateur psychological operation against muslims, along with the cartoons BS, the release of more Abu Ghraib photos and the video of Iraqi kids being beaten by the Brits, all meant to inflame passions.

I suppose it has also been the Iraqi's going around assassinating their own doctors also? Yes, that makes sense. And for all those who are still buying the Zarqawi boogeyman narrative, well I pity you.

23. tinfoil hat tinfoil hat tinfoil hat tinfoil hat tinfoil hat
So the U.S. commissioned the cartoons back in Septemberknowing that it would be 5 months before the Arab street would go nuts over them. Then they fought the ACLU from relasing more pictures of abuse so they hold them back and release them at the right time. After that they got the British to film themselves beating an Iraqi teenager and release it also at the right time. Ahh yes it all makes sense, let's pour money into Iraq so it becomes more unstable and strains the military forces, thanks for making that oh so clear. Sign me up for tinfoil direct!

24. Such childlike innocence
The PNACers write to Clinton, urging him to attack Iraq. They put their PNAC doc "Rebuilding America's Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources For a New Century" together calling for a new Pearl Harbor in order to boost military spending and US dominance, and lo and behold 9 months after getting into power they have their new Pearl Harbor.

They place paid propaganda into the media in the US and in Iraq. They attack a country based on complete lies and arrogance. This we know. I could go on.

What do these people have to do to make you realize you are being manipulated?

They have already admitted they were going to start propaganda and operations in foreign countries in order to further their agenda. And if you think their agenda is an agenda that is in any way for the benefit of the US and its citizens, you are deluded. They are all about money and control through manipulation and the concentration and consolidation of power.

Problem, reaction, solution.

If I was you I would put away my "tinfoil direct!" safety blankets, take a step back, and realize you are being managed.
