The president of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) Jitendra Sharma said that member countries of the organization agreed to send the lawsuit against American chemical companies filed by Vietnamese Agent Orange (AO) victims to the commission next month.
In a working session with Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Hanoi on Feb. 22, he said that IADL has outlined a concrete active plan to support Vietnamese AO victims in the fight for justice.
Jitendra Sharma firmly believes that Vietnamese victims would win because they receive wide support from international lawyers and have the persuasive evidence to make American companies, which provided the U.S. Army with toxic agents for use during the Vietnam War, be responsible for their action.
The president of IADL also pointed out that U.S. District Judge Jack B. Weinstein was wrong when dismissing the lawsuit on March 2005.
After the dismissal, American lawyers representing the Vietnamese plaintiffs have appealed to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in Brooklyn, New York.
