Bush urges calm amid sectarian violence in Iraq

WASHINGTON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said he understood the anger of Iraqi Shi'ites after the bombing of a major shrine in Iraq but urged calm on all sides amid an outbreak of sectarian violence.

"The people of the United States strongly condemn the destruction of the Golden Mosque," Bush told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.

Another heckofajob by BushCo!

8. A lot of hollow talk
What are you going to do about it George? After all, we are still there as a military because they can not run their own country. So I can only assume this is another failure of post invasion planning by your administration.

9. Please remember...
They say the opposite of what they want, so what is it that BFEE REALLY wants?

Sounds like increased levels of violence, but how does this play into their plans?

Are they planning on a Shi'ite uprising so they can take out Muqtada al Sadr and others like him?

11. O-o-o-okay, "calm"; got it. Thanks, George
"Calm." Yeah, that's the ticket. We all remember George's "calm" reaction whenever anything doesn't go his way. You know, like . . . uhm . . . Hmmmm.

15. Dear George Bush,
You evidently know what "political capital" is, since you have used the term. Perhaps, therefore, you understand the concept of speaking from a position of authority. For example, if you win elections, you can speak with authority about... winning elections. Or if you want to speak with authority about science, you must have some background in the area if you want your comments to be taken seriously. Which leads us to the issue at hand. If you want to be taken seriously when talking about "calm" or "peace" , you have to have some experience with or knowledge about the subject. Otherwise, you just embarrass yourself, and by extension the country as a whole. In fact, you probably make things worse, because YOU talking about "calm" serves to highlight your role in the creation of the chaos that exists. It would be like a bully slapping you and then telling you to stop crying. It would just makes you madder.

May I suggest that if you really want to influence the process toward "calm", roll out some other spokespeople who might have something to offer on the subject, like Jimmy Carter, or Bill Clinton. Somebody like that. If you don't, not only are making things worse, you are also giving people who say you are incompetent more ammunition, and the Good Lord knows they already have plenty.

Remain calm, all is well. Only the place is falling apart.
