Stiff competition begins for Bush library
http://www.news8austin.com/content/headlines/?ArID=89150&SecID=2

FORT WORTH -- The baseball team that President Bush once ran is now offering land near its ballpark for his presidential library.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported the Texas Rangers are joining forces with the city of Arlington to offer land for the George W. Bush Presidential Library.
The team is offering a choice of sites from more than 100 acres surrounding The Ballpark in Arlington.
The Rangers and Arlington are competing with at least five Texas universities to host the library. It's a prize that could draw nearly 200,000 visitors a year and pump millions of dollars into the local economy. President Bush was managing partner of the Rangers ownership group from 1989 to 1994.

10. There will be one book
...a dogeared copy of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," undoubtedly displayed under bulletproof glass the way the Hope diamond is displayed at the Smithsonian. The rest of the place will be constructed entirely of marble, at a vast cost overrun, and utterly devoid of art or literature. There will be a cross over the entrance, though, by way of ornamentation and reminding you exactly why the library exists (heh).

There will be a steel-reinforced door, guarded by machine gun armed Marines at all times, leading to the cellar where the few papers belonging to Bush, his father, and Reagan are stored until paper worms and composting have completed their tasks.

2. The Bush library?? What a farcical concept!
Edited on Tue Nov-11-03 12:55 PM by benfranklin1776
The need for land should not be large since by my reckoning it need only contain the two books he has ever attempted to read (but still not finished), namely the epic tomes: "My Pet Goat" and "The Hungry Caterpillar" The money to be wasted on this collection of fictional ghostwritten hagiography would be better spent on state libraries devastated by steep funding cuts caused by his recession. Of course no doubt Halliburton will receive a "cost plus" contract to build the library. It will probably be in the next request for even more money for the Iraq sinkhole.

21. WTF???
As a Ft. Worth dame, I can tell you that the Bush family should pay for the land for this comical endeavor, after the hornswaggling that occurred to obtain land for their baseball stadium. How precious that the Rangers and the City of Arlington want to "give" the Bushes the land that they stole in the first goddamn place!

Ah well, go ahead and build the pathetic GW Bush Liberry so we can all piss on it until the creeks run yellow.

35. Bush is going to have a library?
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha !!!

That is the funniest thing I have heard in a month! What is going to be contained in this "library"? The hungry little caterpillar in twenty different languages? I certainly do hope that we do not in any way honor this evil man in any way after he is gone from the White House. May his legacy be one of continued shame long after he is out of the White House, and may we never ever be subjected to another Bush in the White House by coup or by vote. It is an evil family without much to brag about up in the brain/intelligence department. May it be recognized all over the United States as an another Bush administration of unprecedented, total shame run by a less than intelligent member of the Bush family, George Walker Bush--the junior, oedipal competitor who really would like to kill his father. The alcoholic--the idiot who is missing from a Texas village and they are looking for him , according to numerous bumper stickers I have seen lately.

I predict that after his reign is over, hopefully in the next election, that he will go back to the alcoholism that comforted him for most of his life so far. It is his refuge and his strength.

After all, who can face living with a stupid, dumb frump for the rest of their life without taking a drink to smooth over the disappointment--I mean in his travels, certainly he has met some neat women who are spot on and gifted and at some point must compare those energetic women to the insipid, fat assed, vacant Laura, who is so complacent that if she were told to jump into the Potomac in the middle of winter because it is a political advantage and George told her to do so, she would do so, robotically. That is her legacy.

I think alcoholism will become his standard after he is out of here and notably another failed Bush presidency will be written into the history books along with his serial killing as he brought this ocuntry to war twice--and has so far not completed anything honorable in both those wars--he left devastation in Afganistan--and in Iraq, he is clueless after bombing it to bits--duh--well now what that we are being attacked and our soldiers being killed--well it is obvious to any Texan worth their salt, as George certainly is--do not back down if a hundred thousand are killed--just rain down more bombs on the innocent people there in Iraq to show how wonderfully brave the US is. That is what Jesus would do.

41. Perhaps it can be in the corner of
a bar somewhere near Crawford. Won't need much space for a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the famous goat story.
The only paper the chimp comes into daily contact with is toilet paper (hopefully) so no room needed for any important papers.

I live near the Raygun Library and can tell you that these places are crawling with scary looking elderly repukes -- pasty old white guys wearing polyester sans-a-belts accompanied by spouses who are uniformly chicken-legged and look like they are auditioning for a drag show with the scary make-up and beehive hair. After taking a minute and a half to look at a couple of glossies of the chimp and pickles, at least in the bar they'd be able to have a couple of stiff ones - which looks like how they spend most of their time anyway.

Here's some educational gems from www.dubyaspeak.com
  • Education belongs to everybody. High standards belongs to everybody.

  • I learned some pretty interesting lessons as the governor. And one lesson is that in order for schools to succeed, you'd better have you a good principal.

  • I want to thank General John Fryer, the Superintendent of Schools here. I thought it was pretty interesting, when I was reading the background of the schools here, I see that you got you a general running the school system.

  • It is -- it seems like to me a fantastic opportunity for the country to make sure that the desires of this country are met, and that is every child become a good reader.

  • I mean, there needs to be a wholesale effort against racial profiling, which is illiterate children.

  • Reading is the basics for all learning.

  • How do you know if you don't measure if you have a system that simply suckles kids through?

  • You teach a child to read and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.

  • It's in your best interests, by the way, that we have a literate tomorrow. You're irrelevant if people can't read. And we need to start figuring out whether they can or cannot early in a child's career.

  • We need to know whether or not people are learning. And if they are, there will be hallelujahs all over the place.

  • Sometimes when I sleep at night I think of "Hop on Pop."

  • It's very important for the school children here to listen to what I'm about to say. You're probably wondering why America is under attack. And you need to know why. We're under attack because we love freedom, is why we're under attack. And our enemy hates freedom. They hate and we love. They hate the thought that this country is a country in which people from all walks of life can worship an almighty God any way he or she fits.
