Bush: Iraq at 'moment of choosing'
US President George W. Bush said Friday that Iraqis faced "a moment of choosing" amid violence sparked by the bombing of a Shiite shrine but said he remained hopeful about their country's future.

"We can expect the coming days will be intense. Iraq remains a serious situation. But I'm optimistic," Bush said in a wide-ranging speech defending his strategy in that war-torn country and the global fight against terrorism.

6. Exactly what is this choice?
For the life of me, I can't come up with one.

Stay or leave?

Live or die?

Get hit by a bomb or get lucky?

WHAT THE HELL CHOICE DO THE CITIZENS OF IRAQ HAVE?

9. Spectator Bush. Innocent Bystander
Why, why, we was just in the neighborhood helping out - spreading democracy, making the world a more peaceful place - when all of a sudden the Eyerackis broke out into civil war!

This is Bush's War. He started it and he owns the consequences. He and his GOP media and his privatized military industrial complex. They really enjoyed Shock and Awe. Sorry if it turned the world into a shit hole.

13. Bush Compares Iraqi Conflict to Nascent U.S. Republic
He also asked for public patience as Iraq continues it struggles toward a free and democratic society, noting that America's own journey toward independence and stability more than two centuries ago had been "long and not often smooth."

"No nation in history has made the transition to a free society without setbacks and false starts," Bush told a supportive audience of American Legion conventioneers here.

Yes indeed, I can remember from my High School History class those stories about pitched battles between Protestants and Catholics in the days after the Declaration of Indpendence, requiring that Philadelphia be "sealed off" to restore order.

18. United States of America invaded Iraq to destabilize the region
.
.
.

And to get tons of munitions and armaments into the Middle East

The USA obviously did not intend to control Iraq with the cannon-fodder they sent in, because just the numbers alone (of the military personnel) were ridiculously low to fully accomplish an "occupation"

The USA is building a humongous embassy in Iraq, plus many military bases

Is this how the USA "frees" countries from oppressive regimes?

NO

This is how the USA REPLACES the previous "regime"

I'll bet anyone that the USA has spent more money on it's bases, embassy, privatized contracts, propaganda, mercenaries, etc., etc. in Iraq than it has on any programs that benefit the Iraqis -

Bush, Rice Urge Iraqis to Avoid Civil War

WASHINGTON - Hoping to help prevent Iraq's bloody sectarian violence from turning into civil war, President Bush on Friday urged Iraqis to exercise restraint in a critical "moment of choosing." Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called on political factions to renew efforts to form a unity government.

>SNIP<

Still, Bush, Rice and others employed unusually negative language, underscoring the gravity of the situation. There are fears in Baghdad and Washington alike that Iraq could be on the brink of civil war nearly three years after the U.S. invasion ousted Saddam Hussein's regime.

Bush spoke of "stunning acts of violence" and counseled that "difficult and exhausting" days ahead would require patience as both bloodshed and political conflict continue. Rice called this "an extremely hard and extremely delicate moment," acknowledged the violence was "a strike against Iraqi unity" and said "people's nerves are a bit on edge."

>SNIP<

In Washington, Bush said, "We'll do everything in our power to help the Iraqi government identify and bring to justice those responsible for the terrorist acts."

Hey, I have a thought. It might be kind of crazy, but how about not starting wars? Just a little idea floating around in my head. I'm so glad * will help them identify and bring the terrorists to justice--- he hasn't done that for us. :eyes:

Oh, yeah, I'm sure a plea from the authors of their misfortunes will have such a great impact on whether or not they have a civil war.

What are these people smoking?

24. Damn
Rice called this "an extremely hard and extremely delicate moment," acknowledged the violence was "a strike against Iraqi unity" and said "people's nerves are a bit on edge."

My nerves would be a bit on edge too if my country had been blown to smithereens and then civil war broke out.

She is mighty perceptive there, huh? I wonder what other tidbits of wisdom she could drop.
