Clooney relishes 'traitor' attacks for questioning US policy

2 hours, 20 minutes ago

LONDON (AFP) - US actor and director George Clooney says he was proud to be denounced as unpatriotic for questioning US policy because he wanted to be on "the right side of history".

Interviewed on BBC television's Newsnight about his latest films "Syriana" and "Good Night, and Good Luck," Clooney said that not only did he accept the right to be attacked for his views but he even relished them.

.......

"I want to be on that deck of cards. And I want to be able to say that they boycotted my films... I want to be able to say I was on the cover of a magazine called a 'traitor,'" he said.

"I'm proud of those because those were badges of honor for me because that was when you did it when it was hard to do," the actor and director said.......

9. I agree 100% and
we need the Democrats to start walking tall and carrying a big stick and hell from another post earlier, I see that when Senator Clinton called this the most corrupt administration in history and gave this administration a verbal spanking, hell her favorability rating went up 4 points.....

32. He sure is an amazing guy. And do you notice how he is never
uncomfortable? He is always in the moment, having a good time, quick with a joke, calling it like it is. He wears "it" very well, "it" being the trappings of fame, activism, money. He's just a real dude.

48. I LOVE George Clooney. When I was still working I had the exquisite
pleasure of interviewing him. What a charming man. He's good to his fans. He's eloquent, has a LOT to say, and all of it making perfect sense. He's intelligent, very well-informed, genuinely compassionate, and unafraid.

Yeah, I can see how you'd take him on as an idol. I do, too. He's a Hero and a Patriot. And btw, "Good Night and Good Luck" would get my vote for Best Picture, if I had a vote. It said the most important things this year. By far. I wish nothing but good things for George Clooney. I hope he becomes a towering presence in filmdom.

40. Indeed, she is
Edited on Sat Feb-25-06 01:08 PM by Frank Cannon
George's first cousin and lifelong buddy (Rosemary's son) is Miguel Ferrer, who plays Dr. Garrett Macy on "Crossing Jordan" but is probably best known as the hilariously bellicose FBI coroner from the classic "Twin Peaks".

Of course, George's uncle was also the great actor Jose Ferrer.

Lot of talent in that family.

52. And one of his cousins is Debbie Boone.
She of "You Light Up My Life" fame. Daughter of crooner/weirdo/Xtian proselytizer-cum-leather-wearer Pat. Married Gabriel Ferrer, Miguel's brother. They're still together.

Did you ever see Al Franken's short-lived sitcom "Lateline"? We never heard of it til we saw it on sale as a DVD package. HUGELY funny. About a network news/interview program like a "Nightline," and the newsroom stuff that went on behind the scenes. Franken was one of the correspondents. Miguel Ferrer was the executive producer. Did a hilarious job. And his mom, Rosemary Clooney, appeared on one episode - he drummed, she sang. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!!!!

55. Some wild stories
Miguel was interviewed a few years back and he talked about some of the pranks he and George used to pull at family parties.

When all the relatives were outside or in the other room, they would take everyone's cameras and take photos of their private parts (moon shots, I guess) then put the camera back in place. Grandma, aunt or whomever would then later develop the film and see the pics that George and Miguel left for them.

Naughty boys, I bet their family gatherings were fun.

George himself..........sigh. A good friend of mine has known him since he was a kid.

I have met his dad, Nick, a couple of times. A very nice man also, did the news here in LA for a while, then went back to KY and recently ran (and lost) for Congress as a Dem.

They are good people.

6. Speaking of Clooney ...

I watched Three Kings the other night. It was the first time I had seen it since I had mistakenly thought this to be some sort of remake of Kelley's Heroes.

This movied messed with my head in a big way. I hated the ending -- thought it was absurdly contrived -- and some of it was pretty stupid in its use of plot devices, but it was a good film...gave me mental whiplash from the constant changes from abject horror to thought provoking situations to farce.

And through the whole thing I just kept thinking, over and over, "We have totally fucked these people."

I usually pity celebrities because fame is a prison. Clooney seems to travel effortlessly through fame, and comes out looking and sounding so real. I appreciate anyone who has the nation's ear speaking out against this corrupted administration. Wish he'd run for prez. The guy has the mind of Murrow, the suave of Cary Grant, and the face of an angel.

11. if we don't think fast there will be no one here to read about "history"
And I'm dead serious-

This planet is going down hard if we don't figure out a way to concentrate our efforts on
preserving what's left of the polluted environment,
preserving the food chain,
preserving out oxygen supply (rain forrest),
and figuring out how to feed 6.6 billion people--

...but instead we mess around with stupid territory/religious/ conflicts--terrorism-WMD's-

The money we waste on wars- the energy we expend on propaganda to make the other "team" look bad-
Is this really fully representative of the human potential?
"Taking" to impress ourselves and our friends?

History will be read by no one if we don't get up and take a stand against
those who would harm and exploit to further their greedy desires to get "more".

New Temporary Political Party

Here is the platform:

To bring to a stop all social wedge issues that currently distract the American people. No pro or con legislation written nor debated by our national Senators and Reps. (if they would bother, it would be nice to quickly make it illegal to spy without notice) and insist that they work to accomplish the following two goals.

The Two Goals

We must, on a national level, fix 2 huge problems, 1) protecting our lands and atmosphere as much as possible and implement a non-military system to rescue victims of further hurricanes, large violent attacks and contagions, 2) stop the deaths of our soldiers, contract workers, and the deaths of so-called “collateral damage victims” by badly planned foreign policy.

Social wedge issues are now used, (wittingly or unwittingly), by certain powerful people in both major parties to keep their jobs in politics alive or from a learned misguided cart before the horse thing...while America withers. I do not judge their deeper motives.

25. The Guardian: If only George Clooney would run for president.
snip

Clooney has one divorce in his background, but no scandal beyond clipping David O Russell round the ear on the set of Three Kings, which is the kind of thing that plays well in the Red states - much like shooting lawyers in the face. His youthful indiscretions pale against the current incumbent's binge-drinking, DUI convictions, perpetual bailings-out, not to mention draft-dodging.

Though it probably won't get it this year with the Academy Awards next weekend, I still think of "Good Night, and Good Luck" as best picture for this year in my book!

I hope that film is given some award (perhaps him as surprise Director or the like), so that he can show Michael Moore how to give a REAL profound contentious Academy Awards speech that would make * and the other *bots skin crawl!

Was seriously injured on the "Syriana" set. Actually had his brain's dural layer cracked; he's had cerebrospinal fluid leaking from his nose for months. But he's still in there, working, not slowing down.

Someone like Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity would be sitting in bed at home, moaning to themselves.
