Bill seeks to improve tracking of vote hauling

Frankfort, Ky. - Legislation supported by Secretary of State Trey Grayson seeks to curb vote hauling abuses by keeping track of drivers and passengers.
A county clerk - from a region where paying people to drive voters to the polls is commonplace - said Friday it's about time state lawmakers tackle the issue.
"It has been abused for many, many years," said Ken Gayheart, clerk in Knott County in eastern Kentucky said during a phone interview.
The legislation, introduced Thursday by a top House Republican, would keep vote hauling legal but create a "paper trail" to track down election abuses. In some areas, vote hauling has long been used as a way to pay people for their votes.
