Charleston Teamsters protest Bush administration port deal

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Union truckers and longshoremen gathered outside the Wando Welch shipping terminal to protest the Bush administration's agreement to allow a United Arab Emirates company to take over significant operations at six U.S. ports.

The agreement would not directly affect the Charleston port, where cargo is managed by the State Ports Authority. But the dozen or so members of the Teamsters and the International Longshoremen's Association said the move would hurt security.

The demonstration was part of others staged around the country. Union leaders have said American companies that are willing to bid on the port operations should be given that chance.

Most demonstrators held signs with the phrase "Secure American Ports."

Wonder how long it will be before coffee is $10 a can?

Thank goodness the US is a self sufficient country, it's not like we import everything :sarcasm:
