Police in Notorious Colombian Drug City Rack Up Extravagant Expenses, Outrage President

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) - They dined in the most exclusive restaurants in Colombia's notorious center of drug trafficking, bought expensive jewelry and staged lavish parties while packing guns.
But the men living that high life in Medellin were not cocaine kingpins. They were policemen using government money.
President Alvaro Uribe, an anti-corruption crusader, is furious at the latest scandal to hit the Colombian police, and on Tuesday he condemned the "waste" of public funds.
In a country whose government is trying to raise money to fight drug trafficking and guerrillas, the scale of the police spending spree was astounding. One restaurant bill was for almost $1,700. (snip/...)
