BBC: Bomb blasts hit Iran oil cities
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 05:32 AM by allemand
Two bombs have exploded in the southern Iranian cities of Dezful and Abadan, according to Iranian reports.

In both cities, the devices were planted in the governor's offices, the official Irna news agency says. No serious injuries were reported.

The attacks are the latest in a series to hit the southern Khuzestan province, at the heart of Iran's oil industry.

Eight people died when bombs exploded outside a government office and a bank in the city of Ahwaz a month ago.

Two bombs rock Iranian oil cities, 6 wounded

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Two bombs exploded in the southern Iranian cities of Dezful and Abadan on Monday wounding at least six people, officials said.

The bombs were planted in the governor's office in both cities, which lie in the oil-producing province of Khuzestan that has seen ethnic tensions between Iranian authorities and the Arab minority over the last year.

"There were no fatalities but at least four people were wounded in Dezful and two in Abadan," a local official told Reuters by telephone.

Both blasts occurred far away from any oil facilities in the oil-rich Khuzestan province, where small bombs damaged 15 pipelines and one oil well in September.

9. Don't hold your breath. They shouldn't have gotten away with even 1% of
what they have already done.

3. Apparently it's no secret--how to make it hard for U.S. Oil...
companies to take advantage of IRAQI oil... just terrorize the oil producing areas (especially, though, blowing up pipelines/pumping stations is a more direct method--but this one demoralizes those who run the region and turns a greater political/media coverage advantage by reminding everyone that oil is one of the real reasons we're there as well as showing the Bush plan isn't all sunshine and light...).

6. I would agree and Bush is soo smart that this wouldn'd be
blamed on him, on the other hand (when you have such a mentally challenged Pres. who with his cronies who destroyed our educational system for years to further their agenda0. The world is catching on and figuring that Darwinism is Truth the survival of fittest (regardless of their morality.).

Bush is the EVIL ONE, and he is soo clueless, because that voice in his head, was anything other than Jesus, prob. something that good drugs could have helped to deal with his ineffectiveness.

Power corrupts, absolute power (real or not) absolutely corrupts!

Done deal, they are on the grill, (Iraq), it just gets hotter!!

Hitler learned when you adhere to a doctrine, you are toast! I just hope I get to see Bush get toasted
!

7. Also notable is

the fact that Iran invited every US oil company and services firm to bid on contracts - which is prohibited by US law.

Good catch.

5. "US Marines Probe Tensions among Iran's Minorities"
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 06:13 AM by allemand
By Guy Dinmore
The Financial Times, Thursday 23 February 2006

The intelligence wing of the US marines has launched a probe into Iran's ethnic minorities at a time of heightened tensions along the border with Iraq and friction between capitals.

Iranian activists involved in a classified research project for the marines told the FT the Pentagon was examining the depth and nature of grievances against the Islamic government, and appeared to be studying whether Iran would be prone to a violent fragmentation along the same kind of fault lines that are splitting Iraq. (...)

US intelligence experts suggested the marines' effort could indicate early stages of contingency plans for a ground assault on Iran. Or it could be an attempt to evaluate the implications of the unrest in Iranian border regions for marines stationed in Iraq, as well as Iranian infiltration. (...)

Questions put to him were wide-ranging - on the ethnic breakdown of Khuzestan province on the Iraq border, populations in cities, the level of discontent, the percentage of Arabs working in the oil industry, how they were represented in the central government, and their relations and kinship with Iraqi Arabs next door.
