Bush sees democracy key to terror fight

WASHINGTON, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush defended his drive for democratic societies, even though some elections have led to empowered groups unfriendly to U.S. causes.

Bush met Monday with the National Governors Association. Most of his prepared talk went over the issues -- including energy dependency and U.S. economic competitiveness -- he's been pushing since his State of the Union speech.

But when talking about the war on terrorism he included the ideal to "spread liberty and freedom," mainly though democratic concepts, especially free elections.

...

"I believe this country has got to be aggressive in our pursuit of democracy and liberty, based on our firm belief that there are such things as the natural rights of men and women."

16. Oh, Yes who could forget
Our Dear Friend, Islam Karimov, "The Boiler" who boils his opponents. There's one way to get rid of your critics.

And of course, the US loves him. Bush wishes he could do that here. "What the hell is wrong with this country, he thinks". "Karimov has got it made".

6. Democracy? What the hell is that??
Democracy = Corporate Cronyism in Bushcoworld.

What I see doesn't even resemble the true meaning of the word:

"Democracy comes from the Greek words demos meaning 'people' and kratos meaning 'authority' or 'power'." 37

"...government which is conducted with the freely given consent of the people."38

"...a system of government in which supreme authority lies with the people."39

"Rule by the people in a country directly or by representation."40

"The form of government in which political control is exercised by all the people, either directly or through their elected representatives."41

"The word 'democracy' itself means 'rule by the people.' A democracy is a system where people can change their rulers in a peaceful manner and the government is given the right to rule because the people say it may."42

You can't FORCE liberties onto people, but Bush can dam sure take away liberties from fellow Americans! What a stupid, childish mentality - force people to be more like America. What total crap.

Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 03:04 PM by triguy46
In which stealing elections is validated by a court on the take? Where warrantless eavesdropping of citizens is "essential?" Where evangelical jihadists set the political agenda for the country? Where "big government" is excoriated when it refers to social programs for the poor, needy, but embraced when it dictates decisions regarding ones body, ones relationships? What a crock.

23. ANOTHER RE-RUN?
isn't it kind of early for the summer re-runs? or is this one of those cut/paste montage episodes?

reminds me of a common computer programming error where the "script" gets caught in an infinite loop and just keeps repeating the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over again...
