(Well, it's official, another failed Bush policy.)

Iran working on uranium enrichment: IAEA

Mon Feb 27, 2006 02:29 PM ET

By Mark Heinrich and Francois Murphy

VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran is forging ahead with a nuclear fuel enrichment program in defiance of world pressure and is stonewalling U.N. probes spurred by fears it secretly wants atomic weapons, a U.N. watchdog report said on Monday.

The report by International Atomic Energy Agency director Mohamed ElBaradei was circulated to IAEA board members before they meet on March 6 to discuss it. The report will be forwarded to the U.N. Security Council, which can impose sanctions.

"It is regrettable and a matter of concern that the uncertainties related to the scope and nature of Iran's nuclear program have not been clarified after three years of intensive agency verification," said the report, obtained by Reuters. It said Iran had begun testing a cascade of 20 centrifuges at its Natanz pilot uranium-enrichment plant, pressing ahead with efforts to purify nuclear fuel.

Iran had also begun substantial renovations of Natanz's system handling UF6 gas, which is converted by centrifuges into enriched atomic fuel. It said the cascade of 20 centrifuge machines began to undergo vacuum testing on February 22.

1. No hard evidence of bomb making.
the report "said, however, that investigations has not uncovered any hard evidence that any nuclear materials had been diverted into bomb-making."

3. Good catch, I didn't see that part...
...but unfortunately, most of the bogus "news" sites will probably edit out that part too, I fear.

4. A lot of it is in the titling. Something seemed wrong about the title, so
I decided to check more closely.

2. And now with the Russian deal there will be Russian scientists
in Iran working on it.... Bombing Russian scientists is not a smart move.

6. Getting enough material for a bomb requires thousands of centrifuges
Working constantly. 20 doesn't mean much even if it is true - each centrifuge can only produce a few grams of enriched uranium.

8. Who do you mean, Iran, IAEA, or Reuters?
Because if you mean Reuters, it really doesn't matter, because these days what happens is, UPI, News Corp, corporate "news" (and even AP) will take this story and edit out any info they want to bury.

UPI NewsTrack will actually re-edit it to sound much worst. It should be illegal, but it happens every day.
