Frist more comfortable with ports deal

Frist more comfortable with ports deal

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said on Tuesday that more information had made him more comfortable with a deal for a state-owned Dubai company to manage terminals at major U.S. seaports.

Last week Frist asked the Bush administration to put the deal on hold, saying it needed a more thorough review. Over the weekend, the White House and the company, Dubai Ports World, agreed to a new, 45-day security review of the contract, which closes this week.

"As I‘ve gotten more information, I have a greater comfort level" with the Bush administration‘s decision granting approval of the deal, Frist, a Tennessee Republican, said.

Asked if he would bring legislation affecting the ports deal to the Senate floor while the new 45-day review is going on, Frist said, "No."

14. translation: unless we unite on this port deal and back Bush, the GOP
will come out looking worse.

So in order to convince our base the port deal is OK, we, as republicans, must agree the port deal is OK - and our base will follow.

Or will it?

I especially like the way he claims that more information made him more comfortable - as in the more informed you are the better decisions you make (which is true) - however, will Frist's other choices and decision pass the sniff test when measured against that truism?

Amazing how handy "being informed" comes in- unless it comes to reading the Patriot Act, making a diagnosis from the video of a blind, brain-dead woman, illegal wars, spying on Americans, planes crashing into buildings..etc. etc. etc. (the list is long)

and really, isn't the "I'm now better informed" line just another way of saying "we invaded Iraq because we knew things the people didn't know"???? - Cause it's not like anyone is informing the people of this comforting new information is it?

21. His comfort level
is of absolutely no importance to me. The man is an idiot, and doesn't care one bit what is good or bad for America. His only consideration is what's good for the Republican party, and what will please his puppet master, Bush. Since Bush is, himself a puppet of the corporate world, they are both two useless creatures good only for draining the Treasury and pleasing the corporate world.

25. This was completely predictable...
... and Hastert, as well as most of the Repug detractors will make similar backtracks. This is GOOD FOR DEMS, because no amount of spin is going to make MOST AMERICANS 'comfortable' with this deal.

This is an opportunity for Dems to DIFFERENTIATE themselves, but I don't dare get my hopes up because snatching defeat from the jaws of victory seems to be a Dem specialty here lately.
