1. WrapUp by Ike Iossif (I hope you're not thirsty.)
"Weekly Charts"

Given that the market is experiencing a "pullback," I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at the weekly charts.

<cut to charts - 16 TOTAL>

However, the Volatility indexes are still in a steep downtrend, which means the market's up-trend is not in any danger of being terminated, as of yet.

Overall, I believe we'll see a bounce from support levels, but I am not that confident that the ensuing rally will take the indices above resistance.

Here ya go if you want to see for yourself.

2. Stocks wait for numbers
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Bulls seeking to end U.S. stock markets' three-session droop will be biding their time Wednesday as they await a flood of major economic and earnings reports toward the end of the week.

At 5:30 a.m. ET, futures pointed to a generally lower start for the major indexes.

Investors will be looking ahead to several key economic reports. Among them are jobless claims and the trade balance figures due Thursday, and the producer price, retail sales and Michigan consumer sentiment reports all on tap Friday.

4. Good morning Julie and all. Best wishes for ailing Maeve.
And to your little one too Julie. I hope this ailment leaves quickly and gently.

Luckovich is one of my favorites - as you may be able to tell. A local roustabout, his sarcastic wit never fails to please many. Conversely he routinely offends Bush apologists among his readers.

I must get to work. One project is nearing completion - just in time for another to start.

Have a great day!

Here in central Ohio, we're watching the death of two great local stores. Lazarus was "the" department store for Columbus (a million square feet of downtown space) and will be closing its old flagship and giving the property to the city next August. Now, Big Bear, the original supermarket in the area, is selling off its stores to Kroger or closing them outright. Meanwhile, WalMart is building several new superstores around the outerbelt....

and contributes mightily to the decline of worker's rights and standard of living.

You'd be surprised to learn how few people know anything about what a wretched company they are.

21. Hey everyone - sorry to hear about Lazarus going down
And good to hear you are feeling better Maeve. My lunch postings will be interrupted by meetings today, but I'll try to get back in later in the afternoon.

Lazarus was a pretty big deal on the north side of Indianapolis where I grew up. It's too bad they are going under - they had nice (better than average) lines of clothing, shoes, and coats with reasonable prices. Several friends of mine in High School had parents that worked there - they paid fairly well too, IIRC.

Guess the Walmart-ization of the world proceeds apace, despite the best interests of consumers, workers, and the scoffing of nay-saying skeptics.

Overworked employees are fed up: a survey finds 8 out of 10 Americans want a new job.
November 11, 2003: 4:12 PM EST
By Leslie Haggin Geary, CNN/Money Staff Writer
New York (CNN/Money) - Ready to quit? You have plenty of company.
Many employees are overworked, stressed out, fed up -- and eager to quit their jobs once the economy picks up. In fact, worker angst is so pronounced it has surprised even the most tuned-in human resource professionals. They say employee anger is now almost palpable.

Last trade 92.51 Change -0.59 (-0.63%)

and here's some of the "chatter" that is out there (is this like the "chatter" the intelligence agencies heard prior to 9/11?)

http://www.forbes.com/markets/newswire/2003/11/12/rtr1144296.html

excerpt:

Dealers say the danger to the dollar would not be from the EU sanctions themselves but the threat that tensions could escalate.

"A trade dispute could be negative for capital markets. Overall it would hurt global trade and be a bad sign for corporate profitability," said Hans-Guenter Redeker, chief foreign exchange strategist BNP Paribas.

"That has also held back capital markets from performing and with the weaker performance people put cyclical currencies under some pressure, and especially the dollar."

http://money.cnn.com/2003/11/12/markets/bondcenter/bonds/

excerpt:

Growing trade tensions between the United States and its trading partners, a rising casualty toll in Iraq, and sluggish equity markets also benefited the European currency.

"Short term, the market is nervous there may be some bad news heading the U.S. way, be it equities, terrorism, or a piece of data that doesn't fit in with the more encouraging view of the recovery," said Mark Henry, currency strategist at GNI.

"If the dollar does makes gains, people see it as an opportunity to sell," Henry observed.

24. Gold Soars to Seven-And-A-Half Year High
http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/031112/markets_gold_3.html

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Gold futures rallied to 7-1/2-year highs in New York Wednesday, as investors diversified out of the dollar and commodity funds took aim at the $400 an ounce psychological objective.

"It just looks awesome," said one bullion trader at a U.S. commercial bank.

At the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, December gold broke above the 2003 high set in September after London trading wrapped up for the day, topping at $397.00 an ounce, its highest since March 1996.

At 11:56 a.m. EST (1656 GMT), the benchmark contract (0#GC:) was up $6.10 at $394.30, well above a session low of $387.80.

28. Insiders can’t wait to sell (Did you see this?)
For months, insiders have been negative on stocks, but last week they turned downright depressing -- as selling hit the worst levels in over three decades.

Insider selling by executives and directors of shares in their own companies outweighed buying by an enormous 10 to one. "We have not seen a level of pessimism of this magnitude since we started tracking corporate insider trading activity in 1971," says Vickers Insider Weekly, an Argus newsletter that tracks insider activity.

"It is a strong indication that, in the eyes of corporate executives and directors, the market is not currently a safe place for investment capital."
