UK Government 'should foot Bush bill'

The £5m bill for policing the US President's visit to London must be met by the government, the deputy chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority has said.

Richard Barnes also said Scotland Yard and not the Americans should be responsible for security during next week's visit by George W. Bush.

Scotland Yard says it will facilitate lawful demonstrations, but campaigners suspect they will not be allowed to march through Whitehall, Parliament Square or the Mall.

Road closures will not be revealed until the last minute for security reasons, say police.

this is going to be huge...but you know that US media will probably not cover any parts of the demonstrations...

first it's us getting shit for speaking out, and I have heard that demonstrators here in this country had been moved to other locations while BushCo was visiting their towns...now they want to tell other countries what to do when BushCo visits...what nerve...no wonder everyone hates him...

6. Your city should do what we did

Our Mayor and City Council sent Cheney a letter saying that since we didn't ask for him to come here (to a dinner with 'business leaders'), he'd have to pay for his own security.

He cancelled, and hasn't tried to come back.
