Afghan President Warns of More Attacks to Come
KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on Wednesday he expected guerrillas to step up attacks on the eve of the second anniversary of the collapse of Taliban rule.

A spokesman for the hardline Islamic militia said it had carried out an attack on a Romanian patrol on Tuesday that killed at least one soldier and wounded another.

Two years ago on Thursday the Taliban, allied to the al Qaeda guerrillas Washington accuses of carrying out attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, fled Kabul under cover of darkness after weeks of aerial bombardment by U.S. forces.

Afghan officials concede that a wave of violence since early August suggests that remnants of the Taliban are regrouping and causing serious security problems particularly in the south.
