Iraqis confident they can beat you, CIA tells Bush
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/11/12/1068329639474.html

A new, top-secret CIA report from Iraq warns that growing numbers of Iraqis believe the US-led coalition can be defeated and are supporting the resistance.

The report paints a bleak picture of the political and security situation in Iraq and cautions that the US-led drive to rebuild the country as a democracy could collapse unless corrective actions are taken immediately.

<snip>

The report's bleak tone and Mr Bremer's private endorsement differ sharply with the upbeat public assessments that President George Bush, his chief aides and Mr Bremer are giving as part of an aggressive publicity campaign aimed at countering rising anxieties at home over increasing US casualties.

<snip>

Some of them have complained that it is almost impossible to provide Mr Bush with analyses that are other than the optimistic views of the Vice-President, Dick Cheney, Secretary of Defence, Donald Rumsfeld, and other hardliners.

1. ABC news
reported this a few moments ago. Saddam was ruthless We can't play that game. We friggen knew this before we went in and we pretty much screwed it up on the outset.

2. Bush should be so pissed that he picks up a M-16 and 'takes on' the
guys he said 'bring'em on' to. If Bush was a real leader, patriot, and Commander and
Chief, why didn't accept the personal dual Saddam offered and save the suffering of 10,000
Americans and 300,000 Iraqi citizens?

6. Excellent...........That's the point of the day.
Everybody has been saying they leaked it so Chimpy would get "unfiltered" news from Iraq, but you make a good point, they're covering their ass and standing up for democracy by letting the public get "unfiltered" assessments as well.

7. The CIA is conditioning the public for something
They don't just broadcast top secret reports by mistake.

I think they are conditioning the public for a coming US withdrawal. This could be really, really good news.

8. Yes, that is the point here, isn't it?
They state flatly that it's impossible to get the real information through the rosy-eyed deceivers without going public.

12. What makes you think the WH leaked this report? This is clearly not...
...the kind of report that would ever see the light of day under the Bush Junta.

But the CIA? That's a different story, isn't it?

13. If the Iraquis feel confident
that they can beat Bush, then so should we feel confident that we can beat Bush. We owe it to the Iraquis, the world, our soldiers and our country.

That is being not only patriotic but a good world citizen!

14. I think the CIA is covering its ass while undermining
the White House -- I could have told them that it's bad karma to piss off the spooks and that's what they've done at every turn. The spooks always have the ultimate squeeze on the 'short and curlies' after all. They're probably just telling it like they see it, which of course is a picture the WH would prefer didn't go public. By making it public they paint the Bush Iraq folly for what it is, while at the same time making sure the real 'intelligence' is not covered over or white washed or otherwise distorted. Smart Spooks!
