1. Kind Of
FTD just thought that Mortar Tubes would be a lot safer delivering the flowers to CENTCOM. Too many scared, trigger-happy kids around.

7. Tampa
They only moved to Qatar for the wars. Once "major combat" was declared over they moved back to the normal base in Tampa. The next poll should be will it be Iraq or Syria next?

9. hey it's all Good News dontcha know
? Whats wrong with you? Remember Schickeljunior* said the increased attacks against our troops were a sign of our success in spreading freedom. Sheesh get with the program.

He ordered them to bring it on because he knew increased attacks and violence would be a sign of our success. They brought it on. They are bringing it on every day. We are successful. Whats wrong with you?

Centcom HQ is at McDill AFB in Tampa.

On edit: I think they are punishing the Centcom commander for sh*t hitting the fan in Iraq. Byebye beach, hello walled compound.

11. Amm. I hope thats a joke.
Amm. It works just fine, that’s what CENTCOM does in Qatar. My guess is CENTCOM would function better in Qatar as there is the issue with time zones. While the Tampa staff would function okay, they have families to deal with while in Tampa, and throwing of the sleep patterns like they would in Tampa could cause more mistakes.

12. This move back to the mid-east makes me very uneasy
Hope it is because they need to be closer to operations in Iraq and not that they have bad plans for Syria or anyone else.

The American general leading military efforts in Iraq will reestablish his headquarters in the region, reflecting what he described Thursday as “a sense of urgency” in the face of increasing attacks on U.S. and allied troops there. Gen. John Abizaid, head of U.S. Central Command, said resistance forces in Iraq number no more than 5,000, but are showing new levels of coordination.

<snip>

Abizaid was scheduled to travel next week to Qatar, along with some aides, to reestablish his base of operations there, a senior defense official said. The move places the general closer to Iraq as well as Afghanistan, where he is responsible for U.S. military operations.

“Clearly I feel a sense of urgency with regard to the current military situation,” he told reporters.
