Nigerian youths hold oil workers hostage - American ChevronTexaco

Lagos - Armed Nigerian youths briefly kidnapped 21 contractors working for American oil company ChevronTexaco and seized four supply barges, the company said on Thursday.

The hostages were snatched on Tuesday night and released the following day by militant ethnic Ijaw youths, who were protesting against the use of the Nigerian armed forces to protect oil installations in the volatile Niger delta.

"The boats have been released to the navy and the abducted passengers were released yesterday," said a ChevronTexaco spokesperson.
