Bush: Blair is "least political person I've dealt with"
From BBC News:

<snip>:

On his relationship with Mr Blair, Mr Bush lavished praise on his "smart, capable, trustworthy friend". He said he was in "weekly" contact with the UK prime minister about the security situation in Iraq. "I admire him as a strong leader. He tells you what he thinks and he does what he says he's going to do. "And that's about as high a compliment as I can pay a fellow leader," he said. Mr Bush said Mr Blair made decisions "for the right reasons".

"In my relationship with him, he is the least political person I've dealt with. And I say that out of respect. He makes decisions based upon what he thinks is right. He's plenty independent. If he thought the policy that we have both worked on was wrong, he'd tell me."

"Obviously, staying at Buckingham Palace is going to be an historic moment. I never dreamt when I was living in Midland, Texas, that I would be staying in Buckingham Palace. Buckingham Palace has got a resonance to it here in America which is pretty grand and pretty magnificent. I've been looking forward to it.

Mr Bush may accompany Mr Blair on a trip to the latter's constituency of Sedgefield in the north-east. Asked if he would be able to understand the Geordie accent in the north-east, the president joked: "My Geordie is probably just about as bad as my English." When asked whether he would need a phrase book to understand the regional dialect, he replied: "Yes. They'll need theirs, too, I'm afraid."

No mention then of coming to London under the guise of a State Visit purely to see if he can personally gag the forthcoming BCCI class action before the High Court in January, where witnesses testify to his role in money laundering, fraud, theft, witness gagging, jury bribing, judge buying, lawsuit stalling and personal involvement in running patronage slush funds to further close down the lawsuit...

2. Really? I haven't heard about the BCCI lawsuit, do you have any
links. I would like to read about it.

Whistle could be telling the truth here when he states "the least political person I've dealt with," when you consider the company Jr* keeps.

3. Help! - What is a full state dinner?
"Mr Bush's three-day trip, which begins next Wednesday, will be the first full state visit by a US leader since Woodrow Wilson in 1918."

7. Thanks - but I'm indeed a dense person and still don't catch it....
Maybe Charles will chase after the tails of junior when all goes to sleep in Buckingham place? Kind of like those stories one would read about in "The Pearl"

A Royal feast fit for a King given by the Queen serving 'crow' tickles me fancy, 'eh mate?

8. Re tails:
Quote from the BBC story:

<snip>
'Hired tails'

Mr Bush said he was looking forward to staying with the Queen - even though he joked that he had to rent a morning suit for the formalities.

"I've got my tails all set out and ready to go. Had to rent them, but - just don't tell anybody."
<snip>

I always thought that 'tails' is vernacular for rent boys. Maybe that's what's on those US Navy 'ghostships' that are now docking in Peter Mandelson's constituency hometown of Hartlepool...stowaway security service shrubtarts

Re Fit: yep, I bet someone will have a fit over this one - like fit up, hehe

4. There's something to be said for being political
when you consider "political" and "poll" (as in vote) have the same root, correct? General Bush has said he wouldn't pay attention to protesters, likening them to "focus groups", as if what the people think (between elections) doesn't matter. Indeed he is behaving this way NOW. But I think Blair will see a more "political" animal do some squirming in the next year.

10. George hates unfiltered news, dislikes politics. Why be 'president' then?
Lots of news and politics in the job, y'know.

16. "Least political" = "most compliant"
Anyone who opposes Bush is "playing politics" remember; good old George is above such things...
