Gov't Hoping for Chance to Retry Moussoui

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — While a jury deliberates the fate of admitted terrorism conspirator Zacarias
Moussaoui, prosecutors are holding out hope for a mistrial if they can't obtain a death penalty.

Their arguments have cast a legal shadow over what a less-than-unanimous jury verdict might actually
mean for Moussaoui's penalty trial, which ended its fourth week Friday.

In court Wednesday, hours before jury deliberations began, the government argued to the judge
that it should get another chance to try Moussaoui if jurors cannot agree on whether to make him
eligible for the death penalty.

Other legal experts seemed startled by the prosecutors' argument in the Moussaoui case.

1. In other words, don't let a little witness tampering get you down.
They just keep finding new lows.

5. New laws as well as new lows.
Remember, they can indict a ham sandwich if they want to.
Land of the free, my ass. We have more laws here than any place going, and with this Patriot Act, they invented some new ones.

2. So now the government wants 'overs' until they get the verdict and
penalty they want?

They've pulled our poor country and it's legal system down to where it is lower than that of a third-world banana republic dictatorship.

3. A death sentence is exactly what Moussaoui wants
and would only make another famous martyr for the Islamic world, as well as antagonize all civilized countries which have banned the death penalty. If the Justice Dept. had ANY brains, they would be happy to settle for a sentence of life in prison.
