US aircraft strike Iraq targets; 3 soldiers die
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L14571855.htm

BAGHDAD, Nov 14 (Reuters) - U.S. warplanes and ground forces pounded targets in Iraq on Friday in the third day of operations to root out guerrillas and destroy their hideouts, amid rising casualties among occupation forces.

The U.S. Central Command said one soldier was killed when a convoy he was travelling in struck an improvised explosive device on Friday. Two other soldiers were killed in a bomb attack on Thursday.

Despite the mounting death toll, President George W. Bush vowed troops would stay until they had defeated insurgents fighting on seven months after Saddam Hussein's fall.

But Iraqis could expect a faster transfer of power, U.S. officials said.

3. I have a real problem with the consistent use of the word "Insurgents"

. . Definition of Insurgents:

. . 1. Rising in revolt against established authority, especially a government.

. . 2. Rebelling against the leadership of a political party.

Hmm - since when is the USA the "established" authority in Iraq ?

Obviously the Iraqis don't think so

and as for rebelling against the "leadership" of a political party, well that would be "inside" the USA - no ?

My opinion is that it's just still people trying to drive out INVADERS

Just My Humble Canuk Opinion

5. Perhaps "partisans" is more apt
Or "Iraqi nationalists". But "terrorists" is absolutely inaccurate.

11. not argueing, just a simple question - honestly

. . so the US finally invades Canada,

kills my family,

so I kill any Murikkkan I can see

does that make me a geurilla ?

Because alot of these killings I believe are just motivated by relatives who lost loved ones.

AND thinking on that note, with somewhere between 8 - 10,000 CIVILIANS killed in this invasion ,

and lord knows how many wounded -

that leaves many MANY pissed off & grieving relatives that live in a social climate where revenge is almost a must!

Yup, some are organized for sure, but I think the majority are small family cells -

They got alot to get even for - even on a one to one, and eye for an eye thing

Sorry, them grieving people just don't "get" the "Collateral Damage" thingie

And neither would I

(ok, - end of rant, for now)

6. Just as bad, the US Militar definition of "terrorist" says attacks against
CIVILIANS.

Not many words mean what they used to since this clusterfuck began.

7. Have to agree
with your Canuck opinion. Its always helpful to put yourself in their shoes. Wouldn't you be joining to drive out the invaders if they occupied your country?? Especially if they killed some of your friends or relatives... It is a diaster, even worse than I expected. And since the bush mis-administration can't take responsibility for anything they can't analyze what is going wrong or how to fix it. It breaks my heart that all this death and destruction is for no reason. No reason but bush's idiocy, ignorance and blood thirst for oil. I hope all the people who voted for bush because 'it really won't make any difference-they're no difference between them' are paying attention.

12. Standard issue U.S. propaganda.
The term insurgents has been a long-time favorite of the U.S. empire. Any time they invade a sovereign nation and set up shop, indigenous people who have a problem with becoming subjects of the occupation are labeled "insurgents", and the U.S., of course, must implement "counterinsurgency" operations.

It lends an air of credibility to the messy business of invading and destroying countries for the sole purpose of tightening your chokehold on the globe, see? :eyes:

13. US propoganda I agree - but if they like that "word" so much

. . with all their meddling in world affairs,

. . ya think they could re-write the dictionary ??

. . oops

. . shouldn't give them evildoers any new ideas !!

...that maybe "Operation Iron Hammer" was working (since we haven't heard of casualties in a few days)...

I was wrong.
