Sarandon wants monitoring for U.S. elections
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 08:34 AM by Ernesto
Susan Sarandon wants the U.S. presidential elections to be monitored by outside interests
“I believe our next election should be monitored by international entities, just like it happened in Haiti and Iraq,” Sarandon told Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo, according to our translator. “The last one was an embarrassment. Everybody knew there was fraud, but nothing was done about it. In some states there were more votes than people able to vote.”

Or Bush lied us into war.

Or Gore won the 2000 election.

Or the GOP messed with the Ohio results of the 2004 election.

Or the Bush Administration outed a CIA operative.

Or Bush didn't finish his service in the Air National Guard.

What is it with them and reality?

5. Jimmy Carter monitored Venezuela, but ignored the U.S.
Venezuela has open source codes as well a paper ballots for their machines, which is a better system than what we have.

While people like Carter have no problem talking of over site in other countries, they blatantly ignore the problems here at home.

6. Carter has most definitely not ignored the voting problems in
U.S. He has not been invited to monitor here.

10. Actually, the US does not meet minimum standards for Carter's
organization to monitor elections. His organization will monitor elections only for countries that publically finance elections and use the same method for casting and counting votes across the nation. There are other basic standards that we do not meet.

I am not saying that Carter should not make an exception in order to monitor our elections, I am simply saying it is soooooo much worse than most of us realize.

:(

meet for his monitoring agency.

11. I remember at the time, the U.S. failed to meet the standards necessary
to even begin the monitoring of its elections... or something like that.

elections in the US.

According to the rules of the Carter Center they will only monitor elections in countries that have a uniform election system, hardly the case in the US, and are invited by the host country.

Carter has talked many times about the problems with voting in this country.

I will refrain from posting the rest of my remarks.

16. Why don't we get the same (paper trail) voting machines, country-wide?
Screw states/counties/municipal rights on this score. Every two years, the elections directly affect the whole country. So the whole country should have the same voting machines.

way we will ever get transparent elections. Think of the money we would save (not to mention that it would put Diebold, et al, out of business!

27. Doesn't have to be foreign -- The GAO could secure "Confidence in Results"
That's where Sarandon has it right. We need to demand an end product - loudly.

Either UnImpeachable Results or Impeachable Offense.

The obstacle is not technology or money -- just the resistance of bad or timid people.
