(Katherine) Harris hires new campaign team
Well folks, I know many of you were worried that, after the http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=2201691">"implosion" of Katherine Harris' campaign last week, she might not be able to live up to her well earned reputation for chaos and incompetence, and might...well, start actually running for Senate. Fortunately, I think she's still in good hands:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris named her new U.S. Senate campaign team Tuesday, replacing President Reagan's political director with a former Tom DeLay spokesman who more recently fought gay marriage in Massachusetts.

On the day DeLay, R-Texas, resigned from Congress in scandal, his former press secretary, James Lafferty was named Harris' senior adviser. Since leaving DeLay's office, Lafferty has also led an attempt to ban gay marriage in Massachusetts and served as executive director of the Christian Seniors Association, a division of the Traditional Values Coalition.

He is married to Andrea Lafferty executive director of Traditional Values Coalition, which is known for its anti-homosexual and anti-abortion agenda.

Lafferty replaces Ed Rollins, a Republican strategist who was Reagan's political director and campaign manager for Ross Perot's presidential bid. Rollins resigned last week along with the last remaining members of Harris' core campaign team.

If that doesn't sell her to "mainstream" voters, I don't know what will...

9. Christian Seniors Association is something of a scam
They engage in a lot of the same sleazy direct-mail fundraising practices targeted at old folks as so many of these groups. AARP did an expose on them a couple of years ago:
http://www.aarp.org/bulletin/consumer/Articles/a2003-08-19-crusaders.html

Over nearly 20 years, the Rev. Louis P. Sheldon has raked in tens of millions of dollars for his wars against pornography, the teaching of evolution in public schools, reproductive freedom for women and civil rights for homosexuals. But now Sheldon, the founder and chairman of the Traditional Values Coalition in Anaheim, Calif., has embarked on a new crusade: building a million-member army of dues-paying "Christian seniors."

In fundraising appeals that he says are being mailed to more than 5 million older Americans, Sheldon portrays his new organization as a "Christian alternative to AARP" and promises anyone who joins it, for dues of $12.95 a year, "benefits that are as good, or better, than AARP's."

AARP has received dozens of inquiries about the "Christian Seniors Association" mailings. As it turns out, they were crafted by ultraconservative direct-mail entrepreneur Richard A. Viguerie, who over the years has had a hand in creating several other anti-AARP organizations, including United Seniors Association, the Seniors Coalition and the 60 Plus Association.

<snip>

In an interview with the AARP Bulletin, James Lafferty, the executive director of Christian Seniors Association, said it would seek to be a voice "for seniors who believe that the Christians in this country need to be protected." Lafferty, who is Sheldon's son-in-law, told the Bulletin that Christian Seniors Association currently has four employees, but he declined to provide any membership figures.

16. In a desperate attempt to revive her failing campaign, Harris announced
today, the resurrection of the Three Stooges to head her New Team.

With the Stooges standing behind Harris, she was quoted as saying, "what have I got loose?"

"only 10 million semolinas" quipped Curly who then promptly had his eyes poked out by Moe.

"Numbskulls, we have job to do, you idiots, now get to woik!!" Moe commanded while Harris looked on.

Quickly the team "went to work". Clumsily falling all over themselves, while in the process, Larry set the dais on fire, Curly dumped a bucket of paint on Harris and the four of them caused the whole room to erupt into a pie throwing free for all.

Later, it was quoted by Harris, "perhaps I made a mistake." She was promptly hit in the head with a mallet by Moe.

20. james lafferty - hates homosexuals AND womens rights
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 09:50 AM by superconnected
and so does his wife.

"Lafferty said he has delivered letters to Ashcroft and to the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division asking that federal agents be dispatched to Kansas and Missouri to observe the coalition's activities against churches there."

https://cwnews.com/news/viewstory.cfm?recnum=31228

"The Mainstream Coalition calls itself a political watchdog, saying they monitor sermons for evidence of pastors endorsing specific political candidates -- which is would violate tax exemption regulations according to the Internal Revenue Service. In fact, the Mainstream Coalition's website reveals its leftist agenda of pro-abortion support, homosexual activism, and anti-prayer in schools. Many of the members of the Mainstream Coalition are current or former members of the American Civil Liberties Union, Planned Parenthood, and the National Education Association. "

Guess I didn't realize the National Education Association was up there with Planned Parenthood and the ACLU in RW minds...

Sure, federal agents need to monitor homosexual groups.

Google is littered with his anti-homosexual and anti-abortion news events, as well as his wifes.

We can only guess with the hags new staff, she'll go by way of pat robertson.
