Bush ally mixes charity and politics (Tom Delay and Frist too)
http://www.iht.com/articles/117763.html

I saw this on ABC’s WNT tonight last night this article is from today Mods.

It is an unusual charity brochure: a 13-page document, complete with pictures of fireworks and a golf course, that invites potential wealthy donors to give as much as $500,000 to spend time with Representative Tom DeLay during the 2004 Republican convention in New York City - and to have part of the money go to help abused and neglected children.
.
He said through his staff that the entire effort was fundamentally aimed at helping children. But aides to DeLay acknowledge that part of the money will go toward convention parties, a luxury suite during President George W. Bush's speech at Madison Square Garden and yacht cruises.
.
DeLay's charity, Celebrations for Children Inc., was set up in September and has no track record of work. DeLay is not a formal official of the charity, but its managers are DeLay's daughter, Dani DeLay Ferro; Craig Richardson, a longtime adviser, and Rob Jennings, a Republican fund-raiser. Richardson said that the managers would be paid by the new charity. He said that the goal was to give 75 percent of the money it raised to children's charities, and that the charity also planned to stage events at the Super Bowl.
.
Like DeLay, Frist is also tying charity fund-raising to the convention. He is planning to hold a reception and a concert at Rockefeller Center during the convention that promises to donate money to five AIDS charities.

1. I'm surprised this is being reported
now as it has been going on for years. I'm certain nothing will become of it though, they seem to be able to do whatever they please. That magic (r) sure works wonders, even stopping the investigation and reporting of suspicious deaths in congressional offices.

2. You can coat cat shit with milk chocolate....
bit it's still cat shit. Moreover, what a despicable dichotomy... much of the money goes to lavish trappings and convention parties while some is funneled to charities. I'd like to see the breakout on percentages. Sheez, these people really are the scum of the universe!

6. Doesn't "Celebrations for Children" sound like "The Human Fund"?
"Money for people" George Costanzas fake charity.

That was what hit me when they started the report last night.

8. Should read "Celebrations for Corporate Fat Cats"...
with a crumb or two thrown to destitute children just to make us look all pious-pooh! Feh! Such criminals, such Pharisees!

3. Can you imagine anyone paying $150K to spend time with DeLay?
Hell, he probably has to wear a pork chop around his neck to get his own dog to hang w/ him...

5. I swear I would do it just to torment him for a week
face to face. God that would be great.

Can you imagine sitting down to dinner with him and just laying into him? I know that is pure negativeness but it would be worth it.

4. CBS carried this story last night
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/11/14/politics/main583606.shtml

Their report pretty much pasted that rat-faced bastard DeLay.

---------------
"It's a scam, it's a cynical scheme to evade the new law banning soft money and pay for a week long party in New York during the convention by corporations, lobbyists, and federal office holders, including Rep. DeLay," says Wertheimer, president of the advocacy group Democracy 21.
