Blast Heard in Baghdad, Smoke Near US Compound
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 09:34 AM by leftchick
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20031115/ts_nm/iraq_blast_dc&cid=564&ncid=1480

<snip>
The blast happened at around 4:35 p.m. (8:35 a.m. EST) and shook doors and windows in the center of the city.

A cloud of black smoke hung briefly in the air after the blast. Two U.S. helicopters circled the area near the compound, site of one of ousted leader Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s sprawling palaces.

A spokesman for the U.S. 1st Armored Division, which is responsible for security in the Iraqi capital, said its units had fired mortars at insurgents around the same time as the explosion was heard.

"We fired mortars approximately 20 minutes ago, but not near the compound," said the spokesman.

He said he was not aware of the blast.

.....Hmmm, seems this happened at the same time the IGC (puppets) were giving their press conference....

1. This was breaking news on MSNBC over
an hour and a half ago. The news is slow as usual to leave Baghdad. If there are Iraqi fatalities only, it will not be considered news worthy here. I also heard that we dropped bombs very close to the Syrian border yestersday. I think with the latest bombings in Turkey, the situation in the middle east is about to explode.

3. I despise MSGOP, I try to get my cable news
from CNN, but it's not much better there lately. I even surf Faux every once in awhile when there's breaking news. I wish I could afford satellite, maybe there's a decent international channel availiable.

4. blast
When Bush invaded Iraq he unleashed the terrorists. Now they are going to be in every country in the world doing the same thing we hoped to stop. Antisemitism is on the rise. The Israeli/Palestinian mess will be even worse than it is now. As far as I know Saudi Arabia did not have terrorist involvement until we entered Iraq. He is reaping what he has sown.

the middle east is reaping what bush* has sown... we're all "safer" in the good old US of A in our cul de sacs because bush* in all his wisdom has drawn all the terrorists to Iraq so that we could confront them all in one place, according to the shills from our Pentagon run news stations. Our pResident is certifiably insane and most of the rest of the world knows it, except for a few morons right here at home.

14. Correction. WE are reaping what he has sown.

Nothing sticks to * that the media doesn't want to stick.

We are the ones that will reap the whirlwind from bush. Higher taxes, economic instability, more terraists, and a constitution that may never recover from these maniacs.

Let's all say a big fuck you to our maximum leader, George Whatthehellareyoudoinginthewhitehouse Bush.

10. Someone here on DU called it, they would use Operation Iron Hammer to
cover up the bombings of the "insurgents". Something to the tune of, "Oh that explosion, that was one of our bombs".

11. Bull!
This is why I'm sure:

A spokesman for the U.S. 1st Armored Division, which is responsible for security in the Iraqi capital, said its units had fired mortars at insurgents around the same time as the explosion was heard.

So, the 1st Armored Division, with tanks, APCs, and helicopters at it's command, not to mention A-10 warthogs and other implements of sky-death, has taken to firing MORTARS at ill-defined targets IN A CITY that they are occupying?

"Yes, of course -- those were OUR mortars. That's OUR truck bomb, too."
