US predicts 'rapid results' in Iraq

The US State Department has predicted "rapid and substantial results" in forming an Iraqi national unity government in an upbeat annual progress report to Congress.

...

But the State Department report maintained progress has been made on the political front despite the upsurge in sectarian violence since the February 22 bombing of the Golden mosque in Samarra.

It said that despite setbacks due to the violence and a highly polarised political landscape, Sunni leaders were re-engaging with Shia and Kurdish leaders across party lines.

...

The report put the number of Iraqi security forces at 240,000.

But it said reductions to the 132,000-strong US force in Iraq would depend on "conditions on the ground", not on how many Iraqi forces had been trained and equipped.

4. They just never give up, do they?
No matter how many reports they publish, including the "Plan for victory" in Iraq, they will ultimately fail.

Rumsfailed knows this. So does Cheney.

6. bwaahahahahaaaa
but in all fairness, what the hell else are they gonna say? if they predicted anything other than sunshine and lollypops, whoever signed the report would be looking for new work about five minutes after it reached bush's desk. they do not tolerate dissent in any form.

9. They mean "rapid, in a geologic context"
Progress in Iraq will be achieved in less time than it takes for a new mountain range to be formed.

Mind you with 40+ killed yesterday and 70+ today in bomb attacks on mosques I don't think the crazy people need any encouragement.
