Behind a fence in what was once a car park in a major American military installation sits a tight formation of green-trimmed white trailers, where flags belonging to countries from Australia to El Salvador flutter in the Florida breeze.

It may look like one of the multitude of retirement communities that dot the shores of the sunshine state. But this set of trailers in Fort MacDill, near Tampa, and the military officers who emerge from their tin doors in various configurations of camouflage, are engaged in a far more serious enterprise. They are planning for a global conflict that, Washington believes, will dominate the next 20 years. The Pentagon calls it the "long war": an integrated military, financial and diplomatic campaign against al-Qaida and its affiliates that will eventually span the globe, shaping the lives of the coming generation much as the cold war defined the baby boomers.

And yet within the very heart of Centcom the contours of the coming clash remain a matter of debate. The 63 countries represented here see a need for a joint effort against al-Qaida, but are not at all sure that they share America's vision, or its leadership, of that war.

2. Rumsfeld pushes Gingrich Long War strategy

WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is circulating a strategy paper by former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, asking top deputies to take another look at the QDR with it in mind.

'What does he propose that we have overlooked?' wrote Rumsfeld in a Jan. 30 memo marked 'for official use only' to Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace, Vice Chairman Adm. Edmund Giambastiani and Eric Edelman, under secretary of defense for policy. 'Are there any adjustments to our (Quadrennial Defense Review) roadmaps that could benefit from his ideas?'

Former House Speaker Gingrich wrote the paper, 'Essential Strategic Changes in National Security 2005-2007,' in October. Responses to Rumsfeld`s questions were due back last week.

Gingrich posits the creating an 'Intelligent Effective Limited Government' which will use 'entrepreneurial public management and modern information systems to modernize the government into a system compatible with the speed, agility, flexibility and efficiency of modern global companies.'

Somehow these monsters need to be thrown to the curb!

3. Monsters nails it.
Its about money, not alquaeda. Always was.

I'm glad the other countries don't agree with Americas ideas on this.

...of the United States. Gingrich's vision of "entrepreneurial public management" and "modernized government" is at odds with the traditions of government that have maintained our constitutional republic for nearly 250 years. It is an imperialist strategy designed to funnel wealth and power into corporate bank accounts and to extend their international reach-- the final wet dream of the military industrial complex. "Entrepreneurial public management" sounds a lot like corporo-fascism. It will create a corporate police state in America and we will "always be at war with East Asia." Quite literally, it seems.

18. Couldn't have said it better myself....
...what's disgusting is that most of these warmongering, evil bastards rode into office on a wave of "Family Values."

Now look at them.

They're planning on killing millions of people and salivating at the notion of war.

I f'ing hate these sick freaks.

I almost can't take it anymore.

Someone point me to a protest, so I can direct my energies to something positive.

Newt Gingrich....really!

11. The Long War - BBC report on changing US Military Strategy
Here's the BBC's take on the new brand name for the "War on Terror":

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4897786.stm

"The "Long War" is the name Washington is using to rebrand the new world conflict, this time against terrorism. Now the US military is revealing details of how it is planning to fight this very different type of war. It is also preparing the public for a global conflict which it believes will dominate the next 20 years."

There's some comment from Gen Kimmett about how he's planning for the changing needs of a "fourth generation war", but this one's a corker "I'm an artillery officer, and I can't fire cannons at the internet." It's this grasp of the key facts that no doubt secured him this key position.

He goes on to say "that the US military must try to break down "old mind-sets and bureaucracies" and build new relationships with other agencies - like the FBI, the police and the State Department - through what in military jargon are called "joint inter-agency task forces.""

And imo the end result will be "America under bush, worse than Germany under Hitler".

15. It's a long-term plan to use light fast forces
they can assert anywhere in the world. These small teams will be cross-functional, high tech, media savvy, internet connected, capable of generating misinformation, destabilizing democracies, damaging local economies, and asserting US political views on behalf of the US administration.

Better to fight for our freedom to screw things up over there.

17. KILLER KIMMITT = "WAR CRIMINAL"
Just four days after four US mercenaries' burned and dismembered bodies were strung up on a bridge, American military might was poised to bring Fallujah’s brief spell as a no-go area to an end. Up to 4,000 locally-based US Marines, whose original mission was to woo locals with a $500m humanitarian aid budget, were preparing to roll in with full battle armour on. Even Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, the normally impassive Coalition spokesman in Baghdad, seemed to be relishing the prospect. Declaring Fallujah "the town that just doesn’t get it", he vowed to "hunt down the people responsible for this bestial act". He added: "It will be at a time and a place of our choosing. It will be methodical, it will be precise and it will be overwhelming."

We are all aware by now of what he was promising. Falluja has gotten "it." Over 700 of its citizens are no longer living, breathing human beings. Thousands more have been mutilated. An overwhelming proportion of them had nothing to do with killing the mercenaries.

Of course, to realize the full promise of Kimmitt's words, his boss, Gen. Abizaid, has asked the Defense Department for more troops, as the resistance inflamed by the reprisal has proved more formidable than expected.

strategy.

From Kutjara's link, "I'm an artillery officer, and I can't fire cannons at the internet."

It is deeply disturbing when a government sworn to uphold the right of people to gather together in peaceful discussion alludes to a place where all the world's people can gather together for discussion in absentia (implying no physical violence is possible, hence, it's 'peaceful') as the enemy.

Judge Learned Hand's quote is right (from UIA's link). It's sad these leaders don't seem to have the spirit of the constitution in their hearts.
