Bishops say No to replacing Trident (UK)
SCOTLAND's Catholic bishops yesterday appealed to Tony Blair not to commit Britain to replacing the Trident nuclear missile system.

The eight bishops met last week to discuss the government's deliberations on Britain's independent nuclear deterrent.

The submarine-based Trident system, which is dependent on Scottish docks, is reaching the end of its useful life, leaving ministers with a choice about replacing it ...

Britain is also collaborating with the United States over nuclear research, with UK scientists in February monitoring a "sub-critical" nuclear test explosion in New Mexico, the first such operation since 2002 ...
