Autopsy links cop's death to post-9/11 work

The death of a 34-year-old police detective who developed respiratory disease after working at ground zero is "directly related" to Sept. 11, 2001, a New Jersey coroner said in the first known ruling positively linking a death to post-Sept. 11 work at the World Trade Center site.

James Zadroga's family and union released his autopsy results Tuesday, saying they were proof of the first death of a city police officer related to recovery work after the terrorist attacks.

"It is felt with a reasonable degree of medical certainty that the cause of death in this case was directly related to the 9/11 incident," wrote Gerard Breton, a pathologist at the Ocean County (N.J.) medical examiner's office in the Feb. 28 autopsy.

Zadroga died on Jan. 6 of respiratory failure and had inflammation in his lung tissue due to "a history of exposure to toxic fumes and dust," Breton wrote.

10. I think our heroes may turn out to be heroes yet again...

When more and more realize they are going to die anyway, they may come forward. However, I suppose that means they would risk losing any benefits for their family or forfeit any settlements they may receive. I'd love to see Hollywood and sports stars put together a fund for whistleblowers and their families.

A serious deterrent though, I must admit, is the strong likelihood that they will be ignored anyway. Most Americans have decided they don't want to hear anymore about it; no matter what the consequences are for our country and future generations.

The New York Times had to sue for the firefighter tapes that described the explosions. Why do you think they wanted to keep it secret? The stories about an FBI gag order is most likely true.

...they didn't want sensationalists and conspiracy whack-jobs with absolutely no sense of shame or respect for human life to abuse the last words of thousands of dying people for their own twisted purposes. Which, as you have just demonstrated, is exactly what happened. Personally, I was in favor of the release of the tapes for other reasons, believing that despite the absolute mess the conspiracy cranks would make of the release, it was still important to the national healing process to have a record of what happened on that day.

And your suggestion that they sued for the tapes of the firefighters talking about the explosions is patent bullshit. They sued for the release of all the 911 calls. This idea that it has anything to do with the firefighters talking about explosions is another fiction created by the MIHOP hive mind.

A bit of googling will show you that the NYT's coverage of its own lawsuit makes your assertion rubbish. And now I'm done with this particular line of conversation, because this isn't the right room for this particular argument.

I never claimed that. They = Feds wanted to keep the tapes unavailable to the public. There was no suggestion made towards the motives of NYT.

Edit: This is my response to a strawman argument. Fact remains; multiple explosions were described in the tapes.
