N.Y. Times Leads Newspaper Shortfalls
The New York Times is leading the widening slump in the nation's newspaper profits due to rising paper costs and shrinking advertising deals.

The Times, Newsday parent Tribune Co., and McClatchy Co. - which is buying the Miami Herald and its Knight Kidder parent - yesterday reported lower quarterly earnings.

The weak earnings came just a day following a similar gloomy report from the nation's largest group, Gannett, whose papers include USA Today.

3. newspapers' circulation is dropping due to the "do not call" list, ...
...preventing telemarketing. They had depending on finding new customers among those who have moved. Rather a shame.

8. I am the same.
I even stopped doing their crosswords. They can keep their opeds and their lack of credibility and they may sit on whatever election altering news items they wish. But I will not patronize them. Ever. Again.

Nor. Will. My. Dollars. Seek. Out. Their. Advertisers.

5. They could probably save some money on the ink part if they needed
Plain bird cage liner would look much nicer anyway

Instead of making 30% net profit they are probably only are making 20% net profit and the stock is taking a dive. Like too bad already, take your invested hedge fund money and buy a widget factory somewhere.
