Ex-Foxborough priest indicted on decades-old rape charge
Priest rape cases involve girls, too. This was an "equal-opportunity" scandal, which makes efforts to pin all the blame on "gay priest" all the more reprehensible.

These children's lives were destroyed by sexual predators, not by straight priests, gay priests, bi priests, etc. At issue is not orientation -- gay or straight -- but a disordered sexual compulsion.

And yet the powers-that-be have turned their own moral failings into an opportunity to score points against gays. Talk about morally corrupt.

Ex-Foxborough priest indicted on decades-old rape charge

By Cristina Silva, Globe Staff | April 14, 2006

A former Foxborough (Massachusetts) priest was indicted yesterday for the alleged rape and sexual abuse of a young girl nearly 40 years ago, the Norfolk district attorney's office said.

Gerard McMahon, 70, of Pensacola, Fla., was indicted by a Norfolk grand jury on one count of rape of a child and one count of indecent assault and battery of a child, said David Traub, a spokesman for the district attorney's office. McMahon was not in custody yesterday, and it was not clear when he would face formal charges.

McMahon is accused of raping and indecently touching the girl, whom he knew from his duties as a priest at St. Mary's Church in Foxborough between 1967 and 1970, Traub said.

(snip)

The victim, who was younger than 14 years old when the alleged rape occurred, came forward last year, Traub said.

1. You Said It
When the scandal was at its height two-three years ago, the most upsetting part was to see various groups exploit the scandal to push their social agendas: get rid of the fags, allow openly homosexual priests; allow married priests.

As this case; I can't imagine how the prosecution can possibly prove a rape 30 years after the fact, unless she held onto some kind of evidence of it or of a cover-up. I just hope she gets some peace from the confrontation.

2. Proof? Who needs proof anymore? If Guantanomo is good enuf for
supposed 10 year old terrorists, why should this guy receive special treatment?

3. Zenlightened, you put it well. I just quibble with one point.
You say the perpetrators suffered from: "a disordered sexual compulsion."

I was badly abused as a child for many years, and I saw nothing to indicate that the primary motive was sexual. I believe it is simply a type of sadism, that these bastards deep down hate themselves so much that the only thing that brings them "happiness" is to focus that hatred on whoever is vulnerable and helpless and in their power, and to hurt them in the worst way they can.

The disbelief that people so often encounter when they try to talk about what happened is every bit as cruel as the original abuse, as it leaves a person cut off from a society, as the reality they live with is presumed to be a lie. This makes it very difficult for a victim to get justice until they have developed the confidence and maturity to fight the system.

In my case my own family were the perpetrators, and, as it was a respected family, I could never get police to look into it. This has left them free to abuse other children, and I've had to fight that on my own, without even the support of the other childrens' parents, who could not believe their own daughters when the people being accused were "so obviously trustworthy."

One of the kids attempted suicide, but since then my nieces who were abused by my mother managed to discuss things together, and that togetherness helped them to get over it. There are others though, abused by other close relatives, who I've have had no way of helping.

4. I just realized, we should keep saying it's about sex,
even though it is actually about a form of torture that is far worse than murder.

This administration is against sex. If they see child abuse as a type of torture they'll have it legalized in no time.
