N.H. Candidate Released From Hospital (Gary Dodds)
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - A congressional hopeful who crashed his car and got lost in the woods for more than a day was released Friday from the hospital where he was treated for a concussion, frostbite and other injuries.

"This has been a great ordeal I've gone through. I'm thankful to be alive and thankful to be going home to them," Gary Dodds said at a brief news conference with his wife and two daughters behind him.

Dodds, 41, of Rye, spoke from a wheelchair. He cannot walk or drive and faces extensive rehabilitation.

He described hitting a guardrail on the snowy Spaulding Turnpike while driving alone on April 5, being hit by air bags, then being in cold, deep water as he somehow crossed the Bellamy River.

1. I hope he's going to be okay, long term.
Trauma like that can sneak up on you and have repercussions you don't know about up front.

2. This was a strange story
I hope he fully recovers.

Sounds like a nasty head injury.

4. Hate To Bring It Up...
But there were plenty of folks here, including myself, putting on tin-foil hats thinking something might have happened to him. Perhaps some right-wing mafia group put the hit on him, and he "disappeared" with the fishes

Now who is to blame for this? Him, of course. It is unfortunate to say, but his actions open him up to all sorts of speculation. Why go off into the woods, instead of staying near your car, probably warmer, where you're more likely to be found.

I'm guessing he might have not been 100% before the accident, and didn't want to take any tests which might have impacted his ability to run for office.

5. what is wrong with you?
what the hell kind of thing is that to say? what part of "head injury" do you not understand? next time you think you shouldn't bring something up, maybe you should go with that.

6. Spaulding Turnpike is a treacherous area in bad weather.
Shit, it's treacherous in good weather.

7. The man had a serious head injury. That could account for
his strange behavior after the crash. People with head injuries do all sorts of strange thing. They even see lights and hear sounds that are not there. I had a friend who lost her sense of smell after a head injury in a car accident. Never know what a bump on the noggin might produce.
