2 Marines Killed, 22 Hurt in Western Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two U.S. Marines were killed and 22 were wounded, two of them critically, in fighting in western Iraq, the U.S. command announced Saturday.

A U.S. statement said the casualties occurred Thursday as a result of "enemy action" in Anbar province, but did not give a specific location or provide details of the fighting.

It said one Marine, assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, died "at the scene of the attack." Another Marine, assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5, died at a medical facility in Taqqadum, the statement added.

Eight wounded Marines, all assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5, were evacuated by air to a medical facility in Balad. Two were listed in critical condition and six were reported as stable, the statement said.

12. Given the severity of wounds, their LIVES are ruined.
A son/daughter; husband/wife; mother/father with severe wounds - missing limbs, brain damage, blindness; deafness - the rest of their lives and the lives of those who love them will be saddened by their suffering and the thoughts of what might have been, had they not enlisted. I occasionally read some DUer posting that their child is in the military, but hey, they were 18 or 20 and it was their decision. . . they did it to get tuition money, etc. Well are they gonna get a posthumous honorary degree chiseled on their headstone? And the seriously injured will be spending their years in rehab, and wheelchairs, or with a seeing eye dog - not on some college campus. Yeah, Max Clelland made a great and meaningful life, but he was the exception, and if you read his book you'll know the oceans of pain, both physical and mental which that man has suffered. So for god's sake, all of you with any kids above the age of 12, educate them on the meaning of the term "cannon fodder". Show them pictures of the victims of this war - both US soldiers and Iraqi men, women and children. Explain to them that the USA was never meant to be about torture and violating the Geneva Convention, or declaring war on weaponless countries to take over their oil reserves. You can't wait around until they're 16 and some slick recruiter is weaving dreams of glory and wealth for them.

8. Pile 'em higher

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

10. Those soldiers were someone's daughters or sons, friends, or co-
workers, or neighbors, or someone in a classmate's homeroom in high school.

The friends and the families of these fallen Americans will shortly receive notice of these deaths, and this on Good Friday, on Easter Weekend.

I don't know even one of those friends or families, but it's my thought that they deserve better from their government than to have a goddamned letter from Don Rumsfeld notifying them that their loved one has been killed in Iraq.

This is the context where all ill-begotten wars fail. It's not just a military or strategic issue against "insurgents." It's an emotional minefield, and Bush has no idea in hell where to step next.

This presidency is over with.

19. I am sick
to think of so many lives ruined, all because the arrogant, corrupt, miserable excuse for a human being wanted to be a war president. I think of the pain the survivors and their families will go through, and have no doubt that those who make it will find that the war criminal will have no pangs of conscience at cutting their benefits and access to medical help.

I am sick of the enabling members of Congress, who forget their duties to protect the Constitution, and represent US, and instead blindly let Bush get away with anything he wants. They are willing to let him destroy the country, instead of standing up for we, the people. I detest them all. They all make me sick.

27. Oh, I am, believe me
They are also responsible for this tragedy. The DINOs who have been afraid of seeming too soft on terrorism, and who have gone along with this madman instead of standing on principle, share in the blame. They have been more interested in protecting their jobs than fulfilling their obligations to the oaths they swore when taking office.

How amoral does a person have to be, to be willing to send men and women to their deaths, or horrible injury, in order to hold onto a job? Perhaps they found a way to justify their cowardice to themselves, but I couldn't have done it. Just about 100% of us here knew that the WMDs were a fiction, and just an excuse for Bush to have his war.

There is plenty of evidence that he wanted to invade Iraq even before he stole the presidency. There was absolutely nothing to tie Saddam Hussein to Osama bin Laden, but there was evidence that they were antagonistic toward each other. The sheer immorality of men and women playing with our men and women's lives to satisfy their own political ambition is reprehensible.

Many have not spoken up until it seemed safe to do so. These are not the kind of people we need entrusted with public office. I blame Bush and his administration for many things, but the DINOs earned my contempt all by themselves.

And each of the last 2 years of the Rain of Terra, will add another 850KIA, 5000WIA (2000non-RTD).

So, whomever steps in on 20 Jan 2009 will have 5000 dead service members, 16,000 serious wounded, and 22,000 others with "minor" physical wounds.

And the next 20 years will bring to light untold numbers of psychologically impaired young men and women and lest everyone here doesn't know it a bunch of troops with internal parasites and other undiscovered illnesses from being exposed to some toxic crude over there.
