She was "last seen getting in a dark Chevrolet Tahoe SUV outside the library. Witnesses said there were no signs of a struggle."

He probably opened the car and told her he could give her a ride home -- :puke:

I don't know how parents are supposed to walk this line -- telling their young children about the dangers of talking with/going with strangers and somehow not making them afraid of *everyone*.

12. Poor, poor baby. I tell my kids never to go with any adult, even ones they
'know' who are looking for a lost puppy or kitten or who want to show them something at their house etc. They are to tell the person "I gotta check with my mom" and come and get me. Even then, I would go with them to see what it is that is so important. Not that I want to distrust my neighbors but honestly you just never know. :(

Taking care of all of creation is a good thing....errmmm, at least theoretically. I guess that means George, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, et al. Why do my ethics make that such an imperative? GACK.... Is that a curse or just an inescapable moral charge?

PURCELL, Oklahoma (CNN) -- The body of a missing 10-year-old Oklahoma girl was found Friday night at the apartment complex where she lived, and a suspect has been taken into custody, two Oklahoma law enforcement sources told CNN.

Jamie Rose Bolin, who was last seen Wednesday afternoon after leaving a library near her home, had been the subject of an Amber alert.

She was found in an apartment near the one where she lived with her family, the sources said....

The unidentified male suspect was being questioned by police in Purcell, about 20 miles south of Oklahoma City

Johnson also said the Tahoe has damage on the right side front and rear doors.

He said about 100 FBI personnel, Purcell police officers, McClain County deputies and members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol are involved in the investigation.

15. I think the media is really focusing on these horrible crimes
I think that if we were able to pull the police records....unfortunately these crimes happen again and again....

The tragic part of this is....I am just guessing...that the person that committed this crime has committed similar crimes previously to this....these pedophiles are never cured....I saw a show the other night where the guy committed his first murder of a young boy at 15 years of age...he went to prison for 25 years and then came out on parole and committed 3 known murders in three different states.....

There is something wrong with the law...I have heard the recidivism rate of these type of criminals is extremely high....

19. when I was producing news in the mid '80s
I read an FBI report that said at least 20,000 serial killers were in our society after the Vietnam War. There were a lot of serial murders occuring and I at one time, could name all of the known killers. I didn't sleep well for a long time.

The number (20000)was staggering to me then and I believe that we are seeing them surface along with all the new ones created by the more current wars...central america, gulf 1, and now this disaster. So many suicides are occuring with the soldiers coming back from Iraq. I don't think someone can kill others so casually and cruelly and continually without it affecting them deeply.

17. If she was found at the apt complex where she lived...
and she was seen getting into a car, without duress, then it's probably a sad guess it was a neighbor or friend of a friend who picked her up at the library. If it was a stranger, then what would be the odds they'd find her body where she lived? They must have known who it was.. how sad.

31. Sad to say, the one you have to worry about is not the
friendly stranger in the black sedan. It's the family friend, neighbor, teacher, coach, priest/minister/rabbi. I know a mother who watches the sex offender registry list religiously, and I keep telling her that's not where she should be looking.
The last statistics I read stated that children are in most danger of being killed/molested by relatives. An acquaintance of mine is in prison for molesting his nephew. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I found out about it.

22. Update......9:45pm
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 10:05 PM by RedEarth
PURCELL, Okla. -- Authorities said a missing 10-year-old Purcell girl, missing since Wednesday and the subject of an Amber Alert since Thursday, was found dead late Friday afternoon. Reading from a statement, Purcell Police Chief David Tompkins said that the Oklahoma medical examiner's office still needed to make a positive identification of the body but that they believed it was that of Jamie Rose Bolin, who had been missing since about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities said she was last seen at the Purcell library.

Tompkins said Kevin Ray Underwood, 26, had been taken into custody in connection with the case. District Attorney Tim Kuykendall said that he expects Underwood to be charged with first-degree murder in Bolin's death on Monday. Underwood is being held without bond over the Easter weekend.

The disappearance was first treated as a runaway, but an Amber Alert was issued after another girl told police Jamie had been using a computer to talk online with a man. Authorities now say that while Bolin's death likely had nothing to do with an online predator, they are still looking into conversations the 10-year-old might have had online.

Authorities initially looked for a Chevy Tahoe with distinctive tinted windows, black leather custom seats, the letters "KC" on the seat headrests and a large "FOX" logo on the rear window and a Texas license plate. A partial reading on the tags was "Z69." Johnson also said the Tahoe in the initial report had damage on the right side front and rear doors.

Bolin was first reported missing by her father when she didn't return home Wednesday night. An Amber Alert wasn't issued immediately because no one had witnessed an abduction. Underwood was described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall and 250 pounds with no known prior criminal history.

30. No, 10 year old girls do run away.
In the real world, I've known of 5 year old girls that attempted suicide. 10 year olds run away.. sadly. This girl apparently got into a car with a neighbor, and he allegedly killed her. Whether he was the one she was chatting with online (what type of parent allows that type of unsupervised internet for a 10 year old?), no one knows yet... but I'm sure they will.

34. Any kid under 12 or 13, if they are missing, whether they've run away
or not, should be searched for immediately.

It should not be assumed that a 10 year old, even if they have ventured away from home, or school, or wherever the hell they are supposed to be, is capable of even making a decision to "run away". They don't even really know what that means.

As for the parents allowing unsupervised internet access, who knows what happened? These days, I would be reluctant to allow any child under 12 or 13 to be anywhere unsupervised.

It's sad, because I remember being on my own in my small town, and feeling safe. But I really wasn't. There were several kids in my town molested (by the Repuke mayor's son, no less), and we lived under an illusion of safety. Still, that illusion felt nice.

That gets presented as a central piece of information on this story.

Heard it on TV, now see it in the first line of a news story.

McClain County District Attorney Tim Kuykendall called Jamie's killing one of the most "heinous and atrocious" crimes he'd seen in his career as a prosecutor.

He would not elaborate on how she died, but said he plans to file first-degree murder charges against Underwood on Monday and will seek the death penalty.

Tompkins said authorities were sure the body was Jamie's although they were still awaiting confirmation from the medical examiner.

Authorities said they went to Underwood's apartment after a tip from the FBI, one of several law-enforcement agencies that searched for Jamie.

The FBI would not reveal any details about the tip and spokesman Gary Johnson said Saturday that the investigation had been turned over to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

40. Horribly gruesome update...
y SEAN MURPHY, Associated Press Writer 50 minutes ago

PURCELL, Okla. - A slain 10-year-old girl's body, found in her downstairs neighbor's apartment, had deep saw marks on the neck, said authorities who alleged Saturday that her killer had planned to dismember her and eat the flesh.

The family of Jamie Rose Bolin was in shock, not only with the news of her slaying but with the fact that she apparently died so close to home.

Kevin Ray Underwood, 26, was arrested Friday after investigators found Jamie's body in the closet of a bedroom in his apartment, authorities said. The girl's unclothed body was inside a large plastic tub, along with a towel used to soak up blood, officials said.

Purcell police Chief David Tompkins said investigators think the killer hit her several times with a wooden cutting board, then placed his hand and duct tape over her mouth to suffocate her. She was sexually assaulted after she died, officials said.

41. When it comes to your kids, you can't be too careful.
My 13-year-old goes nowhere without me or another responsible adult. The kids most likely to accept a ride from someone they don't know well are kids who have been left to fend for themselves. No 10-year-old should be alone in the first place. This is just unspeakably horrible for all concerned.

51. That was my first thought.
Who lets a 10 year old go to the library by themselves? I am not trying to put blame on the father, he supposedly was very devoted.

My son is almost 12 he goes NOWHERE without one of us. We don't let him walk to school. He doesn't cruise the neighborhood like most of the other kids. We always have kids over our house to play. He has lots of friends and they always come over here.

He had his best friend over to spend the night. Saturday morning I brought them over to the computer and told both of them this story (without the details). I told them (again) to never accept a ride from anyone even though it might even be the next door neighbor or someone they know and trust. It is sad that you have to scare your kids like that but these days that is just the way it is.

57. A few years ago a five year old girl
was abducted from her front yard in Orange County Ca. She met a similar fate. She was being "watched" by her grandmother who was inside the house. I remember a policeman being interviewed saying the grandmother had done nothing wrong.

Sorry to disagree withthe police, but "watching" a child, means just that -"watching."

I totally agree with you. And I'm also the one who has the kids over here to play. My daughter's best friend is frequently left alone at home and allowed to roam around by herself. Another little friend who weighs maybe 70 pounds walks home from middle school almost a mile away. (I've told the girl I'll give her a ride everyday, but her parents insist she walk.)I know it's a fine line between being protective and being over-protective, but I'll continue to err on the side of caution.

61. I remember...
I lived in South Orange County then, where we lived for many years. As I remember it was in her driveway, or the street right in front of the house that she was dragged into the car screaming. I can't imagine leaving a 5 year old alone out front. She was playing with other kids also. Because of the events that took place in my life at a young age, I would have never taken my eyes off of her. But, I guess it is too easy to be critical. May nothing ever happen to our children. Tragic. I am sure the grandmother lives with that every day. I would be suicidal.

Edited on Mon Apr-17-06 01:31 AM by LibDemAlways
believe how lax many parents are when it comes to basic safety issues. I cringe when I see children walking alone or in situations where an adult presence is necessary but missing. Example:

For years my daughter took ballet lessons at a local academy located in a strip mall.
One of the rehearsal studios could only be entered through a narrow back alleyway. I would walk my daughter to the door, wait for the teacher, then sit in my car until the lesson was over when I'd pick her up - again at the door. You would not believe the number of parents who dropped off their small children (4-7 yr. olds) in the alley and then took off - not even knowing if the teacher was going to show up. Then they'd be late picking the kids up and the little ones would be out in that alley with cars whizzing by. I witnessed this type of negligence on a weekly basis. Children rely on adults to protect them, and it's a responsibility some take way too lightly.

Missing Oklahoma Girl Found Dead in Neighbor's Apartment

Saturday , April 15, 2006

PURCELL, Okla. — A slain 10-year-old girl's body was found with deep saw marks on her neck, said authorities who alleged Saturday that her killer had planned to dismember her and eat the flesh.

The family of Jamie Rose Bolin was in shock, not only with the news of her slaying but with the fact that the suspect is her downstairs neighbor.

45. other things also found in his apt:-hack saw, cutting board, daggerL
Edited on Sun Apr-16-06 04:46 AM by rodeodance

....Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents seized a decorative dagger, a hack saw, duct tape, meat tenderizer, barbecue skewers, a duffel bag, the cutting board, a computer, and a videotape about a serial killer, Tompkins said.

Police think Jamie died Wednesday, the day she was last seen at the library in Purcell, about 20 miles south of Oklahoma City. She was reported missing that night.

"Jamie was in the apartment below us the whole time," said Rose Fox, Jamie's grandmother. "The only reason that he couldn't move the body and hide it was because somebody was out there the whole time, either on the balcony smoking or standing in front of the apartment.

Authorities said they became suspicious of Underwood when he pulled up to a check point set up near the apartment complex two days after the girl was reported missing.

46. And from the piece
""This does not appear to be a spur-of-the-moment crime of opportunity but a well-thought-out, premeditated act with months of planning and preparation," Kuykendall said."

48. I am not buying the canabalism yet
having a hack saw and bbq sauce IMHO does not mean canabalism. It could just mean he was going to cut up the body to get rid of it.

53. and a videotape about a serial killer
"and a videotape about a serial killer"

Just a guess but the video is probably about Albert Fish who commited similar murders of young girls and ate his victims. They should just hurry up and eliminate this piece of shit from our planet.

56. At first you think that, but then the alternative is FAR more deserving:
Give him life in prison with no parole. Does he deserve to be put to sleep humanely for what he did? As a child killer and child corpse abuser, you're an instant bullseye in prison. The fate he's going to be suffering at the hands of fellow inmates is far worse than any death penalty would give him. Many of these men are fathers themselves, most of whom will never see their children grow up again. Some of them are sexual abuse victims. Child killers are moving targets in prison.

Police: Suspect Planned to Eat Okla. Girl

By SEAN MURPHY, Associated Press Writer 22 minutes ago

PURCELL, Okla. - The body of a 10-year-old girl was found in a plastic tub in her neighbor's closet, and police said her death was part of his elaborate plan to eat human flesh.

Jamie Rose Bolin had deep saw marks on her neck and was apparently hit several times with a wooden cutting board, Purcell police Chief David Tompkins said. Agents removed meat tenderizer and barbecue skewers from his apartment, one floor down from where the girl lived with her father.

"Regarding a potential motive," Tompkins said, "this appears to have been part of a plan to kidnap a person, rape them, torture them, kill them, cut off their head, drain the body of blood, rape the corpse, eat the corpse, then dispose of the organs and bones."

Kevin Ray Underwood, 26, was arrested Friday after investigators found Jamie's body in the closet of a bedroom in his apartment, authorities said. The girl's unclothed body was inside a large plastic tub, along with a towel used to soak up blood, officials said.

55. Utterly ghastly (reminds me of the most disturbing movies out there)
I've not seen those movies: August Underground & Scrapbook...but I've read about them as one of the most disturbing movies out there. The fact that evil shit like this could happen is what makes it all so scary and horrifying.

My thoughts with the Bolin family as their horror and despair is unimaginable by most of us. No comfort, but the tiniest consolation is that Underwood was stopped before he could follow through with the rest of his abominations.

59. Death penalty is only too mercy for sick evils like this man.
Democrats should not be afraid of embracing death penalty for evils. If we don't want innocents died like this girl, then some people in this world deserve a death penalty.

62. I don't think so.
They seperate these types of criminals. They wear different color jumpers and anytime they are moved they are shackled by the arms and legs with two to three sheriffs. Anyone jailed for first degree murder and particularly this type of gruesome crime against a child, is definately seperated from the population.

should be tortured about every couple of days, a couple of days in general with the other prisoners, a couple of days of solitary confinement, then another day of torture just for good measure. That man makes me sick, dying would be too easy for this animal.

66. "Go ahead and arrest me. She is in there. I chopped her up."
http://www.kten.com/Global/story.asp?S=4775767&nav=menu410_3_9

The man accused of killing a 10-year-old neighbor girl for an elaborate plan to eat human flesh joked about cannibalism on his online diary.

Twenty-six-year-old Kevin Ray Underwood also discussed the effects of not taking his anti-depression medication and mentioned fantasies he described as -- quote -- "dangerously weird."

People who knew Underwood described him today as a quiet, boring and seemingly trustworthy young man. His mother who lived across town called him a -- quote -- "wonderful boy."

According to a police affidavit, he confessed that he killed Jamie Rose Bolin, telling F-B-I agents -- quote -- "Go ahead and arrest me. She is in there. I chopped her up."

I too saw some of his quotes from his website. Lots there about needing to adjust his meds.

71. That's why I just got
my soon-to-be 10 y.o daughter a Firefly cell phone. She asked me at Christmas when she could get her own cell phone, and I said "In your dreams". When I heard about this little girl and the sicko who murdered her, I started thinking. I like the Firefly as it has total parental control - she can only call, and receive calls from, preprogrammed (by me) numbers, has instant access to mom & dad numbers & 911, no camera, text messaging, or downloading games, ringtones, music, etc.

Even my mother-in-law, who is an old-fashioned, down-to-earth, you-spoil-your-kids person, really approved of getting her this phone.

Maybe if this little one had a device like this, she would still be with us today.

Prayers for her family. I can't and don't even want to imagine their pain.

Edited on Mon Apr-17-06 06:41 AM by the dogfish
That poor sweet little girl, my heart goes out to her family.

My eyes teared when I read the part where the guy said that when he first started beating her to death, the first thing she said was "I'm sorry".

I wish this guy could suffer the same slow, painful, humiliating, terrifying fate ten times over.

75. strange how the FBI keeps popping in and out of news reports
One things says local cops tipped off to investigate the apartment _by_ the FBI.

another says the FBI first searched the apartment.

I wonder why the FBI was even involved?
