US ambassador to Venezuela agrees to report activity plans

CARACAS, April 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela William Brownfield has agreed to inform the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry of his public activity plans in Venezuela after experiencing repeated harassment here, a government official said on Sunday

Information Minister William Lara said that Brownfield and Venezuela's Deputy Foreign Minister for North America Mari Pili Hernandez met on Wednesday to discuss plans for security coordination and that Hernandez had insisted that Brownfield give the foreign ministry a written notice of his public engagements in advance.

Lara explained that the purpose of the measure was to allow the nation to offer him security, whilst still allowing Venezuelans to demonstrate peacefully and democratically either in their support for or disapproval of Brownfield's presence.

"At last Mr Brownfield has understood that this is a sovereign nation, ... and that the aim of the government is to offer him the security to which he is entitled," Lara said.

By admitting they had not informed the Venezuelan government about his plans for trips around Venezuela, he acknowledges they would have had a hard time protecting him, AND ALSO a hard time creating incidents, as he had charged.

If they didn't know where he was, or anything about his plans, it seems so unlikely they arranged to have a small group of motorcyle riders (men and their girlfriends, or wives, who had been attending a baseball game where he appeared) follow him for 10 minutes, pitching eggs and fruits at him from the local market.

1. Apparently the hot heads in Bush's administration decided it's easier
to have the ambassador follow normal guidelines for travel, and gave up their threat they're going to curtail in-country travel for the Venezuelan ambassador in Washington.

3. I've finally figured out what this man is up to.
(I didn't want to be hasty - gave him the benefit of a doubt).

Mr. Brownpile goes around, makes quite a few "appearances", all around Venezuela. He has apparently adopted the "Iranian Democracy plan". he goes to poor neighbourhoods, gives out stuff, in an effort to try and foment unrest.

He was last seen at a baseball game in a poor neighbourhood of Caracas. Of course, the Chavez government was wise to him, and they tried to stop him in his tracks. IT WORKED!!!

This man has figured out that if you go to the poorest people, you have a better chance of stirring up violence.

I even went to the U.S. Embassy web site. Sure enough, there are LOTS of photos of him, looking REAL BENEVOLENT, handing out checks to women, hugging kids, picking up kids, hugging them, and looking VERY sweaty the whole time. ((does he have a thing for young boys?))

See for yourself: <http://www.buyusa.gov/venezuela>
Scroll down to the bottom to see lots of cameo pics of Browndump.

5. Thanks for locating the photos! He keeps busy, doesn't he? Geez.
As mentioned by Vice President Rangel, I think, you really don't see ambassadors from normal countries butting into the affairs of people and organizations inside other countries. Not part of the job description, for good reason: civility.

He's definitely part of Bush's plan to get Chavez. From an article written a little over a year ago:
A relatively soft-toned visit by three U.S. Senators, Bill Nelson (D-FL), Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) to Venezuela on January 10, 2004 that produced reconciliatory statements by both nations appears to have provoked a backlash by the U.S. Department of State. Despite the presence of the U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela, William Brownfield, in meetings with the three Senators and Venezuela’s President, Hugo Chávez, as well as other high-level government officials, during which agreements were reached to “begin a new relationship and not dwell on the past”, a rush of declarations affirming just the opposite were made public days later.

On January 11, Ambassador Brownfield made headlines in Venezuela during a visit to the site of destruction from torrential flooding that occurred back in 1999. He declared that the U.S. Government will always “support the people of Venezuela” and assured assistance in case of any future natural disasters. He announced the donation of $33,000 in USAID funding for a local day care center, a mere fraction of the more than $15 million given by USAID to the political opposition in Venezuela over the past few years to overthrow President Chávez. But Brownfield’s appeasing disposition was clearly directed at Venezuelans and not their government. Just a day later, the “good cop, bad cop” game the U.S. Government has been playing with Venezuela became evident. Former U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela, Charles Shapiro, accredited shortly before the coup in April 2002 and remaining, through rocky relations, until August 2004, published an Opinion article in Miami’s Spanish newspaper, El Nuevo Herald, justifying U.S. intervention in Venezuela.

Shapiro, now the Adjunct Vice Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the Department of State, affirmed the U.S. Government’s commitment to continue financing Venezuela’s opposition movement to President Chávez, referring to coup leaders and illegal strike instigators as “Venezuelans seeking to protect their democratic rights”. The U.S. Government has funneled more than $20 million to opposition organizations and parties since 2001, through its two financing entities, the National Endowment for Democracy and United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

7. Well, there it is.....
in black and white. This man is up to no good.

Fortunately, the Venezuelan government is on to him. His efforts will be very restricted now. Plus, there will always be a camera on him, and he goes out on his "goody-goody" missions.

He brought it on himself:smoke: The thing that really irritates me is, don't they realize that they are dragging our name in the dirt? They're making it tougher for people like me who want to export to Venezuela, but he's besmirching us. Damn State Department is behind this. It will come to nothing, though.

Thanks for the update.

4. One more thing...
Brownfailed was supposed to inform the government of his activities and whereabouts. He didn't do this.

Small wonder Caracas is upset.

6. Article which didn't make it to the American news outlets:
Colombian military implicated in plot against Chavez: Uribe

Monday, December 19th, 2005

BOGOTA, Colombia (AFP) — Venezuelan former soldiers plotted against President Hugo Chavez’s government at a Colombian military building, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe said.

Uribe made the stunning disclosure Saturday at this Caribbean resort town where he is meeting with Chavez, and after analyzing documents furnished by the Venezuelan leader.

“The Venezuelan soldiers who are in Bogota went to a building to meet with members of the Colombian military.

President Chavez gave us these documents … we analyzed them and this morning I said to President Chavez: ‘I must tell you the truth: this is a building of Colombia’s public forces,’” he said.
(snip)

Seven Venezuelans involved in a 48-hour coup against Chavez in April 2002 have been linked to the new plot.
