US to watch for gas price-gouging: Bush
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060418/pl_nm/energy_bush_dc

and OJ's still looking for the real killers.

I'm concerned about higher gasoline prices," Bush said at a Rose Garden news conference to name new staff appointments.

"The government has the responsibility to make sure that we watch very carefully and investigate possible price-gouging, and we will do just that," Bush said in unprompted remarks about energy prices.

"At this time of year people are beginning to drive more, getting out on the highways, taking a little time off," Bush said. "That increasing demand is also part of the reason the price of gasoline is going up."

Knowing that our fearless leader has our best economic interests at heart. :sarcasm: If he truly does, then that would be the first time since he "took office".

8. But I thought he was a "free-trader let the market forces work" type
He wouldn't be hinting at **gasp** "price controls" would he? I thought he had strong convictions???

He should have convictions, but I'm thinking more along the line of the "criminal" type.

What a piece of work!

21. This guy hasn't pumped a tank of his own gas in his life
and that's the scary part. You know deep in your heart, this guy has never pulled up to the local gas station and filled up his own car, but somehow, 51% of America thought he was just a regular Joe.

This is what happens when we use the "I'd like to have a beer with him" standard for electing the most powerful politician in the world. Turns out that sometimes the guy you want to have a beer with, is also the guy that would steal your money and screw your daughter.

I don't want a Pretzledent I can have a beer with...I want a President that know what the f*#k he is doing!!!!!

6. Notice how the dis-reality is created. He probably just got off the
Phone with Exxon and Mobil, plus Condi's old company to tell them to make it while they can. And check in on his retirement contribution and their contribution to the PNAC agenda.

He pretends to be the friend of we citizens? Only certain citizens will believe this.

Dis-reality doesn't always work with everyone.

Condoleezza Rice was a Chevron Director from 1991 until January 15, 2001 when she was transferred by President George Bush Jr. to National Security Adviser. Previously she was Senior Director, Soviet Affairs, National Security Council, and Special Assistant to President George Bush Sr. from 1989 to 1991.

Another Chevron Corporation giant in the Bush administration is Vice President Dick Cheney. Vice President Cheney was Chairman and Chief Executive of Dallas based Halliburton Corporation, the world’s largest oil field services company with multi-billion dollar contracts with oil corporations including Chevron. Lawrence Eagleburger, a seasoned Bush counselor who held top State Department posts under George Bush Sr., is a director of Halliburton Corporation.

Halliburton's global network of investments includes projects in politically volatile areas including the Caspian Sea region. Dick Cheney was instrumental in negotiating a Caspian Sea pipeline for Chevron. The crude oil pipeline is a 900-mile project stretching from western Kazakhstan to the Black Sea that will primarily benefit Chevron by connecting the Tengiz oil field to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk in Russia. Chevron, the largest oil company member of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, holds a 55 percent ownership interest with the Republic of Kazakhstan in Tengizchevroil. The 40-year, $20 billion joint-venture company was formed in 1993 to develop the Tengiz field. Tengiz is one of the world’s largest oil fields with 6 to 9 billion barrels of recoverable oil.

Exxon chief made $144,573 per day: report

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Lee Raymond, the chairman and chief executive officer of Exxon Mobil Corp., earned $144,573 for each day of the 13 years he served at the top of the oil company, according to a report in Saturday's New York Times.

Raymond, who retired from Exxon (XOM 62.89, +0.84, +1.4% ) in December, received more than $686 million from 1993 to 2005, according to an analysis done for the paper by an independent compensation consultant.

Raymond received more that $400 million in the final year of his contract.
Shareholder activists, consumer groups and corporate governance experts were taken aback by the details of the package.

Raymond declines to comment for the report.

Charles Elson, director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware said Raymond received "entrepreneurial returns for managerial conduct."

they can still buy SUVs, they can drive as much as they want. I, for one, wish there were bike lanes near my house, because I would ride my bike to work in the nice weather and take a scooter or snowmobile in the winter.

Why now?? It would be fun.

9. He's going to get to the bottom of this price gouging
...Then he immediately makes excuses for it:

"It's tight supply worldwide and we've got increasing demand from countries like India and China, which means that any disruption of supply ... (is) going to cause the price of crude to go up," Bush said.

More drivers will take to the road this summer, which will also boost demand, he said.

"At this time of year people are beginning to drive more, getting out on the highways, taking a little time off," Bush said. "That increasing demand is also part of the reason the price of gasoline is going up."

What else is there to do in the Buxh economy, but to "take a little time off".
Maybe I'll go to Yellowstone before he sells it.

30. More crude oil
is not needed. Our crude inventories have been up for weeks now, it is gasoline that is short, because there is not enough refining capacity. None will be built because then they will not have these obscene profits.

If you would just can the whole warmongering plan gas would subside rather quickly. If you pulled us out of Iraq, there would probably be a price collapse.

So I expect price increases to double over recent history, now that our Cuckoo-in-Chief is on the case3....

36. price gouging? since when does a republican president decide
a company is charging too high a price for its goods? (Ironically the last guy that did it was Nixon) I guess politics trumps all principles for Bush. That said a more disturbing reason is that high gas prices make substitutes economically viable. Bush wants to keep the oil economy in place. Of course he's such an idiot that he does not realize that his moronic colloquy with Chavez and the president of Iran is doing more than anything to roil the markets and drive up the price of oil.

CRUDE oil is $71.00 a barrell!

Who is gouging who?

Bush's war and war mongering have put a $25/bbl premium on oil. So He and Cheney and his buddy King Abdullah have gotten rich beyond the dreams of Avarice. Who is doing the gouging indeed.
