N.Y. Sen. Clinton gave $190,000 to Democratic candidates in March

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — New York Sen. Hillary Clinton shared her wealth in March, doling out $190,000 in contributions to Democrats in Iowa, New Hampshire and elsewhere, according to a campaign report filed late Thursday.

Clinton's political action committee, HILLPAC, raised $272,477 and spent $327,484 in March, according to the group's filing to the Federal Election Commission.

The senator spread the money far and wide, particularly on fellow Democrats running for Senate and on state party organizations.

Clinton, a potential 2008 candidate for the White House, donated $5,000 each to the New Hampshire Democrats and the Iowa Democrats — two states that play key early roles in presidential primaries. She gave the same amount to state parties in Michigan and Arizona.

Clinton spokeswoman Ann Lewis said the donations were aimed at strong candidates in key election battles around the country. She said the Iowa and New Hampshire donations were part of a larger effort to help Democratic candidates for governor in 2006.

The Senate Democrats' campaign committee, the House Democrats' campaign committee and the national committee each received $15,000.

Two congressmen trying to make it to the Senate also got boosts from Clinton. Rep. Bernie Sanders, who is running for the seat held by retiring Vermont lawmaker Jim Jeffords, received $10,000, as did Harold Ford Jr., of Tennessee, who is campaigning for the seat being vacated by Majority Leader Bill Frist.

7. actually I DO want her money OUT
AND EVERYBODY ELSE'S TOO!!!

That we allow people, ANY people, to pour huge sums of money into our political system is sick.
That it's required for a win is proof that this ISN'T A DEMOCRACY.

Very few in the country even make $190k in a year, and she's giving that much away to politicians.
Somebody can "donate" that much to a politicians and we're all supposed to have equal votes.
riiiiight.

Our political system is a non-stop advertising campaign and where we get to vote on who had the best marketing department.

Until we chase money out of politics that is NOT going to change.

9. I agree the system is a mess
and I support public financing, but Dems need money to take back congress...That's the unfortunate reality we live in. Denying it doesn't make it better. And if Dems were all of a sudden to stop raising and spending money on getting the message out, repukes would simply steam roll them. As it is, repukes have the $ advantage.

Hillary is just giving money she raised through her PAC to other Dems. I don't see what the big deal is here.

10. I do realize that
which is why I said "everybody else's too".
To me this sort of stuff just drives home how FAR off course we've gotten.

I just get *so frustrated when I see this stuff and everybody seems to blithely accept it.

8. This was money SHE raised
from contributions through her PAC.

She's just redistributing it to other Dems, because she knows as well as anyone else that her race isn't exactly going to be terribly competetive.
