Labour defends Cherie's hair bill

Labour has defended Cherie Blair over a £7,700 bill for a personal hair stylist during the last election campaign.

The money was paid for Mrs Blair's personal hairdresser to keep her immaculately groomed during her husband's election campaign in 2005.

Tory leader David Cameron said his barber cost him a good deal less but Labour Party bills were not his worry.

A Labour spokeswoman said: "So what? We won the election." She added Mrs Blair had visited more than 50 seats.

According to the figures, Mrs Blair's hairstyling cost £275 per day for the month leading up to the election.

that she sometimes wore after she lost most of her hair during chemotherapy that looked like a £500 Nicky Clarke haircut compared to Cherie Blair's 'do.

Actually, Cherie's the reason I'm convinced that Tony won't step down as PM until he's dragged out of No. 10 kicking and screaming - she likes the perks too much to give them up. It's just a pity that she still always ends up looking like she got dressed in the dark however many freebies she picks up.

9. Women are dissected by the media

In any article about a prominent female politician, the first sentences are ALWAYS about what she was wearing, how her hair was done, etc. It's totally ridiculous. You don't see stories about male politicians talking about what color tie they were wearing or whether it matched their socks. It takes effort to achieve a sufficiently conistently polished yet generic look so that the papers won't simply yammer on and on about a woman's hair-do or pantsuit.

12. The point is that Labour used to mean "socialist", and she spent more

on getting her hair done then than some people unable to find a job have to live on for three weeks. That's what is so hypocritical. This "Labour" government pretends it represents and stands for people who cannot imagine having £275 spare for anything, never mind for hairdressing. If Cherie were the wife of a Tory grandee, no one would bat an eyelid (much). But she is the wife of a Labour Prime Minister - and as a QC earns a huge salary. She and Tony Blair have £4 million mortgage(s) - a total betrayal of everything that Labour used to stand for.

I hope that she is going to be taxed by the Inland Revenue on this "benefit in kind" paid for by Labour subscriptions.

We can expect such an Imperial attitude from the British, what with their monarchy and history of colonialism, but one might expect a member of the Labour party to try and at least hide it.

This attitude of royal entitlement is pervasive in government everywhere. I doubt this spokesperson even today understands the problem.

Her Labour party constituents are working in steel mills and mines for a fraction of what Mrs. Blair spent on her hair. I imagine many of them are working fantastically hard, and not just during an election.

It's no big deal. Those millworkers and miners no doubt can eat their cake.
